A ll this doom mongering ! Friday night snow coming sideways i put 10 litres of unleaded in my td5 before i realised. The tank was about empty so i filled her up with diesel thats 1/6th as its a pickup 90. I was starting a round trip of 450 miles and now back home having used the tank full and re filled.ITS RUNNING BETTER.

The owners handbook for my old Shogun said you could run up to 50% petrol in extremely cold weather to prevent waxing. Never tried it mind you and 50% sounds an awful lot.

I have heard of this before, however ive been strongly recommended something called "comma diesel magic". Apparently it works wonders for the engine and can reduce emissions quite a bit for MOT's etc. I havnt got round to trying it yet but im sure i will before my next MOT.

i prefer to have a decent engine that only needs a drop of veg oil every now and again.

that **** is like engine flush..

I read on here somewhere about adding a bit of 2 Stroke oil to the diesel to reduce smoking, can't remember the ratio, but I just fire a decent squirt in the tank when I fill up. The smoking has all but gone, and it flew through the emissions at last MOT. :D:D:D:D:D

If your engines getting smokey first try driving it very hard when warm, this usually clears out a diesel (is normally carbon build of from pottering around at low revs), if that doesn't help then try FORTE diesel cleaner, best on the market. Personally I would never use a petrol mix on any modern diesel, an old 200 or something then yeah not so bad but anything with more modern systems can suffer from deal degradation. My 406 diesel has lost some MPG thanks to a customer filling it up with diesel, I suspect injector seals are damaged but its still running and not worth repairing so I won't bother, had it been run a bit longer I suspect it would be dead now...

Mine was putting some smoke out last year like you described so I started putting v power diesel in and now there's no noticeable smoke, the 110 pulls better up hills and sounds so much quieter.
