Following my post re your original question you replied what you had done re engine and trans you have fitted.
My original answer is the only one that will work within the parameters that you state i.e. you dont want wider axles.
The stage one axle i mentioned was the front axle assy off a landrover stage 1 V8 this was the last model before the 110 it was a 109 with V8 and permanent 4wd like a 110 or 90 but wth leaf springs.
You dont need to change your rear axle. other than to make sure the diff ratio is the same as the stage 1 axle. and to upgrade your rear brakes to 109 spec. I would suggest that you fit a servo so that you make full use of the braking capacity of the stage 1 front. HTSH :)

Ah yes i think im begining to understand!

config = lt77/lt230 and series axles

....if i set my fwh to free then the vehicle wont move because there is no resistance from the front axle and therefore non through the rear - as in a normal diff (is this correct?)

....If i run perm 4wd on tarmac at high speeds then there is a chance of disintigration in front uj.

Neither are very acceptable!! (though its a pretty s2 - would look good as an art feature).

So i have to do the following to keep the existing axles (without any worries of sudden lock up); fit an ashcroft kit to either convert lt77 to part time 4wd or a kit to use the series transfer box.

failing that put 90 axles on and fit spats

Thanks for all the replies - what a great website!

forgot to mention - im converting to 5 speed to improve performance and economy as i want the vehicle as my main transport (a 4speed with o/d wont cut it). I intend to fit a spare tank for veg oil and fit engine comp sound proofing - so look out for more stupid questions in the future. Ill post a quick update when ive had the work done and let you know how it all went. Again, thanks for the help
