I've seen a gearbox going cheap.

Will it fit to get 5 speed, as opposed to sourcing an overdrive?

Would I need the relevant transfer box or would my old one mate up to it?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Nothing will fit together easily & it won't end up a cheap option. O/D would be a far easier bet. Fit it in a couple of hours, easy to take back off if you don't like it (though I couldn't see why yer wun't), will hold it's value if looked after & more gearing options............not that you'll use many except for O/D in 3rd & 4th.

Hi I converted one a few years ago and it had to be the box and transfer box all in one, I also had to change the driven clutch plate to a multi spline one.
The transfer box mountings were adjusted and the whole thing looked awkward, the transfer box sat low. I think I also had to shorten the clutch release bearing sleeve.
Some of the floor and the Hand brake mech was modified. There might have been a few more adjustments but I cant remember, Finally it wasn’t worth doing really due to the ratio being totally wrong it ended up being flat out in 5th doing about 40mph, I think after that R Rover diffs and 750’s were fitted.
Not worth the bother really!!!
