Peckham Power

Hello!

After years of fascination, I have just bought my first ever Land Rover – a 1997 Defender 110 300 TDI CSW.

I live in Peckham, central London, so you may be thinking why on earth do I need a Defender (no – not for suburban safety reasons – Peckham ain’t that bad!) Well actually, my wife and I are planning to escape the big smoke and drive from London to Cape Town, hopefully to settle for good. The reality is, while we love London, we are really outdoor adventurer types and we feel its time to close this chapter of our lives and move on to the next.

I am actually following the footsteps of my Dad who drove from the UK to Cape Town in the ‘70s and never returned to the UK! He didn’t do it in a Land Rover so I feel I ought to put that right!

As my wife can speak French quite fluently, we are planning on doing the west coast route south to Namibia, then heading east through Botswana, Zambia, Malawi before heading south down to Cape Town.

I am new to Land Rovers and 4x4s in general. I’m looking for all sorts of practical advice and hopefully meet up with some local Landy fans. OK, so there is no green laning to be done in Peckham but Kent, Surrey & Sussex are within easy reach.

Hiya chap! Welcome to the looney zone..

That sounds brilliant! Good luck with it, hope it all goes according to plan! (then again.. does anything?)
