its still got its original gearbox , the plan was to butcher a discovery for its motor and box's , just havnt got round to it yet.

long time!!

your gearbox mounts will have to move back in that case rob....either that or bring the whole lot towards the front. either way it's not easy. The bellhousing on a disco is longer than the defender..

I'd get searcing for a decent LT77 or start saving the £400ish for a recon box fella:(

If you weld it you'll make more problems for yourself in the future

arse , what if i used my own bell housing? hang on , the shaft would then be to long right?
arse , arse , arse.
so , it would be tdi from disco , lt77 from defender then lt230 from disco to up the gearing right?

pssst that's why I sold mine ;)

but yup that's right good LT77's are hard to find (as I found out) my box was still okay but I reckon with my driving it probably only had 5years tops (read as 1 year:D)

you got aother landy lined up then dave or was ken the 110 the last of his kind?

you're not gonna like this fella, but I dont think i'll be getting a landy any time soon. I love em but dont have any time anymore. I ended up getting an Alfa 156 instead :) nice little motor though...infact i get a bigger grin from chucking it around.

having an extension on the house next year so i'm thinking i'll need a truck / greenlaner. something battered so that i dont mind denting it:D

*************

maybe this is silly, but what about the short bellhousing AND the short gearbox input shaft too? I know it means a part strip of the box but it might work if the parts were the same INSIDE the gearbox.
Tell me to shut up if that's appropriate ...

my lt77 has a worn mainshaft , Ive replaced the output gear and that took some of the shunt away but not all , Ive put grease on the shaft splines before i put the gear on and that also deadened the shunt a little.
now, what i propose is this , my gear is not cross drilled , nor can i use a cross drilled gear as my box is to old , so , what if i used something else to 'fill the gaps' as it were in between the splines?
such as high temp gasket sealant or similar?
i know it wont cure a worn shaft but it may take the annoying shunt away eh?

Try these guys About Legs give em a ring and they'll sell you what you need for a good price, they've modified them.
