I have a disco TD5 and the front passenger window will only come down 10mm then jam seems slightly crooked and the has trouble going up straight (so helped it with my hands to get it seated all the way up).Anyone got any ideas please (there is no noises ie grouching)

If it anything like te freelanders 1 the window is clamped at the bottom to the regulator. this sometimes gets dislodged and might ned retightening or worse glue. Once your able to take the door card off make sure you use a plastic lever as the popper can snap easy. there might be plastic weather sheet needing removing over the door frame and regulator. once sheet remove, tape the window at the top to the door and switch the regulator on for down fully. If the motor okay and cable okay then the window pincer clamp should appear at the bottom. Next is to slacken the bolt on the clamp to remove and assess if glue or rubber is old. Next to drop the window down slowly to see if the window needs gluing to the clamp with araldite back onto the pincer clamp. If so then you can reclamp the window back to reuse.

I have recently taken the whole thing apart to find that the regulator mechanism was a bit seized where the two parts meet and the regulator-to-motor bolts were a bit loose. This caused it to not work properly. Also the motor is prone to getting water in it !!! Sounds like your problem altho it is also possible that the window track or tracks may have come a bit loose.
Once taken apart, the motor can be dried out and relubed, then reattached tightly to the regulator after freeing the mechanism off and lubing it.
The motor can be tested once you've got it off very easily, to make sure it is OK, but your problem seems to be down to lack of maintenance and NOT likely to mean buying new parts.

I doubt the issue is broken regulators, they are pretty substantial bits of metal.
We'll see what the OP finds when he takes his door card and water screen off.
My bet is jammed regulator, and/or loose bolts connecting this to the motor, and/or motor which is water-logged or fubar in some way., which may be rectifiable.

The Disco 2 has a channel bolted to the window with arms ending in nylon wheels that run in it.

If you wish I have 23 pics of the whole process of dismantling the window mechanism from the door, taking the motor off, disconnecting the plug, which isn't obvious and so on, I can help you with all this if you message me.
I did put all this in another thread, not one of mine, but I can never find it.:rolleyes:
DON'T clamp the window in the "up" position then action the down switch, damage could occur! :eek:
