HI all,
I am in trouble again, this time my landrover disc 3 2007 TDV6 seems to have developed a chain like rattle in the engine compartment. It has come on gradually getting worse over the last week or so. I thought it was perhaps a bearing or something going on the fan as it seemed to be coming from the front from over the front drivers wheel. However when i opened up the bonnet to check oils etc last night, I discovered it was actually coming from somewhere under the engine cover. It is definitely getting worse by day so need immediate attention.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this please?

There are two timing chains in the v6, drivers side one is at the rear of the cylinder head, and passenger side one is at the front of the cylinder head.
When the snap they cause quite a bit of damage, so it might be a good idea to stop using the car until you can get it seen to.
It is quite common for one of the timing chains to rattle for a few seconds on cold starts until the oil pressure has built up.
I assume you have checked the oil level?

On another note when the a/c compressor seized on mine it had started to make a rattle for a few seconds then the safety clutch exploded, luckily even with a seized a/c pump the car is still safe to use, a/c pump is on the passenger side and can just be seen with a torch from the top of the fan cover.
Replacing the a/c pump is not for the faint hearted, utter **** of a job.

Shiny a/c pump, lowest right hand pulley, all connections are on the back of it!

Hi mate

Plus 1 , also wonder if the oil pump has been changed particularly being a 2007

Indeed that looks a right sod of a job to change that AC pump , Have a great weekend

It might help if we could hear the tinkling.
Have you used a stethoscope to try and accurately locate it?
It could just be a bit of tinware like a heatshield or a nut and bolt coming loose.

I'm being VERY optimistic here!

Bear with me all, I have recorded the sound but have to work out now how to transfer it from my phone to this site which is on my computer??
