Hi Every now and again whilst putting the passenger window up it would make a really loud bang I thought it was the track that the window slides up and down in so I put a lubricant in the track, but I put the window up yesterday and it gave out a really loud bang its stopped working in the closed position and there is a scratch from top to bottom on the inside of the glass would appreciate any suggestions on which part is broken so that I can order it before I take the door apart or is it a big job that needs to go to a garage its a late 2002 disco 2
Thanks

Sounds like the regulator has finally given up, as they do, and buckled up and disconnected from it track at the base of the glass and so scratching the glass.
But before u purchase any thing u need to confirm which means removing the door card.

Just replaced one on my project Discovery

This is what you need

1998-2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 NEAR SIDE FRONT WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR NSF #L1 | eBay

Don't be tempted to go for a new pattern part, you can pick them up for about £15 (minus the motor) buy a good used one (will be a genuine part) fitted with the motor.
Job takes no more than 30 mins to complete from removing the door card to refitting it after repalcing the regulator

Thanks for the advice as soon as it gets a bit cooler I will do as you say and take the door card of, have a look, and if its what you think it is I will search for a good second hand one but I bet it takes me longer than 30 mins!!!!!!!!! more like all day

Thanks again

Just finished fitting new regulator yep its an easy job for a kerbside mechanic like me, the one thing I would add to all the advice regarding fitting is to get a door trim panel clip remover I got one from e-bay £3.99 and it made getting the panel of so easy its also good for removing other bits of trim. Thanks for all the help

ps it did take me more than 30 mins it took all of 2 hrs !!!!!!

Hope you didn't buy the £15 Britpart one or you might do it in 30 next time (which wont be very long) they are cheap for a reason

Interesting thread. My D1's passenger window does something similar. Just as the glass nears the top, going up, there is a shattering bang, which sounds like the glass must break, and then it shuts. It's worse in hot weather than in cold.

Does this sound like the same problem that could be solved with a new regulator? The window's done this for as long as I can remember. It's often a bit reluctant to open at first as well and I think as the glass goes up and down the top of the glass is tilted, with the top of the window lower towards the front of the car.

Try Amazon for new door card clips.
Packet of 10 was £3.90 inc p and a door card clip remover for about £3.00
And dealing through Amazon should be better than ebay
I have a used regulator arm with motor from a Disco 1.
If anybody wants it,but I am up in Scotland

Your window shattering when you get too the top is the same as what my window was doing, and yes it does sound like the glass is about to shatter it really is a simple job and if you dont do it now it may break when the window is down and its windy and raining and cold and your miles from home!!!!!!!!!

The advice Biggeeee gave me regarding a second hand against Britpart regulator was good advice but I did end up buying a Britpart the reason being that if I could find and inspect a second hand one at a breakers or local to where I live before I pay for it then yes I would have used one,but if I bought one on e-bay or online then until it was delivered I would have no idea whether or not it was a well worn and nearing the end of its life or not.As I dont live near any breakers and I really needed to get it fixed I ended up with a Britpart regulater it is the passenger window so its not used as much as the drivers window lets hope I get lucky
