Anyone been on the park wood 4x4 site I was thinking of going on the 13th June anyone else fancy it if so drop me a line could do some lanes going and coming home I will be setting of from Manchester.

It's a great site. Bent a front wing on a tree, slid off a root into the tree, lots of scope for standard vehicles and monsters. Not somewhere to'race' but plenty to have a go at climbing, descending, generally playing .. ;)

Lanes going and coming home!?! U sure.... bit ambitious, off-roading especially at p&p sites gets real tiring, especially as they are usually early risers on a Sunday - after a staurday night out

I've been to Parkwood, really enjoyed it, ended up snapping both rear shocks, filled the cab up to knees in water too! :p

I think you could do some lanes on the way back no problem but probably not on the way there unless you plan on getting up at break of dawn.

Check my youtube out for a few videos of the Pond at Parkwood

It's a 12000lb winch from eBay actually. It's some cheap japanese thing, cost about £245 and to be honest it's one of the best buys ever, it's never let us down in the water, snow, mud or anything we throw at it. It came in the post 2 days after purchase and it's wireless too, bargain mate!

Never had any issues with the water, wading is awesome fun, all of our snorkel is sealed with Sika so it's water tight.

When it comes to winches I'd say don't bother with forking out stupid money, a winch is a winch just look after it, either sika or use some sealent to make the box water tight and you'll have no problems. If I'm honest, Plasma ropes seem to be a better choice.

i got my winch of ebay £245 13000lb winch it one. like this one
13000lbs ELECTRIC RECOVERY WINCH 12 volt SHIPPED FREE on eBay (end time 15-May-10 23:09:50 BST)

i only used it once no problems yet !!!

Exactly, cheap and cheerful, sometimes you buy cheap you buy twice but there's always them one's that are fit for purpose and absolute bargains, our winch has never steered us wrong

I'm hoping to go on the 13th, also from Manchester, but there's no chance of any laning as well!! It's a camping job sat night anyway, and then I'll be completely knackered and the car soggy and shagged afterwards!!

Winchwise, I bought a 10000lb superwinch for 318 off auto lift uk.

It's actually a Chinese made cheapo, just with superwinch name. I went for the superwinch name because I thought it could help if I need spares etc, at least it's an establised firm, despite being a cheapo winch underneath.

I quite happy with my steel rope, it's fit and forget as long as you spend enough time winching in slowly and carefully, I never let the cable bunch up, so often it takes me 10 minutes to recover. I also run the cable out again and dress the drum smoothly after I'm clear, just to keep that cable mint.

A synthetic looks like too much high tech for a recreational user like me, I would prefer brute strength and simple reliability.

I also like to spend a considerable amount of time in deep water and mud, and the winch so far has been fine, fitted for about 2 months and about 4 pay n play days where it always receives a good submerging.

A good wash out after and wd40 might be helping it.

Cheers, sam

p.s. Parkwood is superb, real forest stuff, very interesting/exciting to get lost in, but virtually no open/fast sections.

One of the best I reckon because of the majority of dense woodland :)
