Hi all,

My parking sensors have stopped working then started again.... Then stopped again.

I've been searching on here and saw the advice that you should activate the sensors and listed to each one for a ticking noise.

I've done this but none of the sensors seem to be ticking at all! I guess this could mean the ECU is faulty.

Is there any way if checking this? My friend has diagnostic equipment, would it show on this as a code?

Thanks in advance

Flashing light on button could be ECU or wiring fault.

99% is usually a duff sensor or a cable damaged from rubbing between the bumper and the crash bar.

You sure you are listening to the sensors quietly enough? As they really are hard to hear the ticking noise.

Problem is, if there's a fault on either one of the front or back sensors the whole system will go into fault mode.

I'll have another go but I was listening as hard as I could, with my ear next to the sensors and the engine wasn't running so I would've expected to hear them.

I'll get it plugged into my friends diagnostic machine and see what it comes up with.

Thinking back to just after I bought the car, I'm pretty sure there was a fault on the diagnostics relating to PDC voltage issues, however the sensors were working fine at that point so I didn't worry too much.

Will check again and get an exact code

Loom failure seems to be the common cause of failure.

Loom failure seems to be the common cause of failure.

+1 especially if it has a tow bar, IIRC one of mine had same issue, multi plug from senor loom to main loom behind bumper O/S/R corroded (mine are LHD but should be the same place)

Ok thanks I'll give that multi plug a check then, need to get the bumper off at weekend to take a proper look

I assume it must be something like that as a sensor failure wouldn't stop the other sensors from ticking, and at present there doesn't seem to be any ticking at all

You can get to it without removing bumper I think, if it has a towbar then it is a bit tight

Just to update... my alternator died completely at the beginning of the week. Since getting a new alternator and battery fitted the parking sensors have worked fine! So either it is a coincidence and a loose connection on the sensors is temporarily ok, or the new battery has somehow resolved the problem for me.

Either way they work (for now)

Yes it seems so! Ok great, well that is my mind at rest that the battery low voltage was the cause.

My final job now is to relace the rear wiper motor. I have a new one on order then that concludes my first list of things to fix!!

Sure it won't be long before something else breaks though

After only 2 weeks of ownership I really do love the car though, hopefully the issues will continue to be minor jobs that I can fix myself :5bdriving:
