hi I have intermittent parking sensor issues,

2003 L322 3.0 TD6

start car an go around car all sensors clicking happily in forwards ad reverse gears and they do as they should..

Then every now and again...USUALLY when you want to PARK somewhere tight they play up and give a constant sound with light on switch on all the time.

If you push the switch on and off the sound is still constant no parking sensors !!!!

cant remember if turning ignition on and off clears it or not.

any suggestions....when it works it works fine....

could this be ecu issues.

Light constantly on is normal....it flashes when there is a fault.

Are the sensors dirty?? as road grime build up makes them go crazy...also avoid jet washing directly on the sensors as water can get in!

Activation of the system should be when reverse is selected or when the button is pushed. cancelling is either via button, ignition off or driven forwards for longer than 150 yards or so.

Check also if they have been over painted or if the paint covering them has bubbled as this can cause grief too.

just been out for a drive round they all work fine every time. front and back.

im inclined to look at changing ecu as it has the old version fitted so this may cause issues.

get this sorted then ive only got anti rolbar knocking and bmw mkiv sat nav upgrade

Mk4 won't give you that....only prettier graphics and moving map...(I know cos I fitted the Mk4 a few months previous - search my threads for it)

The reversing camera was only available on the post 2006 models with the MOST data bus system.

Unless you are retrofitting a third party install of course ......

I think there was a module you could fit to get Bluetooth through the stock stereo, but not sure what this was called.

Hi ,

Did you ever get to the root cause for the parking sensor issue.have exactly the same problem on an 04 vogue . I am fairly sure it is a sensor issue but was hoping you may have confirmed it.

Regards

Hi,have you got allcoms ? If so check the live data if not you will be fecked it could be anything you need diagnostics.

I've had crazy parking sensors. The paint bubbling was causing the problem. If it is bubbling scape off the paint with a blade, sand down the corrosion on the aluminium (check that it then works) and paint over it (I just used some black smoothrite paint).

I've had two go in the last 3 years.

For further reference see:

I really like this guys videos as references as they are really straight forward. I've used one of his other ones to replace a wing mirror without breaking all the plastic clips....

I had the same issue and posted this a few weeks ago:

"Fixed mine today. Took bumper off to find one of the wires in the rear sensor was cut. Resoldered it, got bumper back on and......
STILL continuous beep from the rear!
After further investigation, it turned out to be the paint on a different rear sensor had oxidised a little and flaked. This was tricking the sensor into thinking something was in the way of the sensor, hence the continuos beep.
Scraped the paint off the sensor and hey presto! All is good.

So, moral is, check the paint on your sensors and see if that is interfering in any way."

Hi.. had mine plugged in today with a 'autologic'.. turns out its my thing that makes the noise !.. so now im on the look out for a new beeper thing... oh and also me battery on the way out.. thanks stuart..

From your first post the sound was constant. The physical beeper is working fine. The circuit is either closed at the beeper level or a constant signal is telling the beeper to sound.

I'd be interested to see if a new beeper unit (wherever that is) is at fault...

Hi.. I must apologise .. I misled you.. the intermittent fault was with my front ones... this was fixed with a new plug on one of the sensors.. the rear never worked .. the fault with the rear ones is the sounder.. fitted in the boot r/h side stow compartment (at the top).. I did do some investigation this afternoon ,, I remover the sounder and activate the sensors, I can just about hear a very muted beebing coming from the sounder when placed right up to my ear... I can only presume this is knackard... ive had a quick look on the interweb and so far im struggling to find the part... so it could be interesting..

Sounds like it could well be the sounder

Phone up your local Landrover dealers or a parts specialist and they will be able to get hold of one for you
