hello
i have fitted new parabolic springs on my series 3 rebuild and the rear prop shaft doesnt line up has anyone else had this problem?

help greatly appreciated

yes now that the suspension is lifted. I assume you also fitted longer shocks propshaft yokes do not have also fitted longer shocks and that the rife height is now greater then full droop of the original axle.

Question is What propshafts have you fitted originlal items? Or paddocks/britpart replacements? Or have they likley been replaced in the past?

Note these do not have the same max ammount of angle than LR original replacements have.

I have seen a propshaft break and been spat out because of a similar problem this was fitting 1 ton shackels

hi
I have britpart springs and propshaft as it is its no where near matching up, i realised about the 2" lift but never thought about the prop being a problem its my first land rover and first rebuild!
its great to get some advice

Mine was the same, but to compound the problem - I fitted a Sailbury rear diff which is about 1.5" longer!!!

I when with GB springs and extended shackles - total lift is about 3"

Only way to fix is throw monay at it I'm affraid!

To sort prop angle out I cut off sring mounts remounted them and assembled - then rotated diff until angle was close as possible to gearbox flange. I used a piece of PVC pipe to aline and measure lenght of new prop shaft...

Next was a call to propshaft services - seriously professional and great product - I had a wide angle prop with extra travel 50mm as opposed to 30mm on standard - total cost £220.

I had it up to about 85mph with no vibrations.....

Expensive yes, but only solution really!

OK on the Britpart propshafts its the rough castings that need cleaning on the yokes this improves it a wee bit. If you look at the LR original and Britpart ones Britpart ones are thicker walled and so its possible to take them down a wee bit to get them as good if not better than LR originals. Do this at your own risk this is not how to but what can and has been done if you like that kinda thing. Spitfiremk1uk fitted a salisbury axle but he moved the axle back to compensate for the longer nose. This also makes the wheel fills the arch opposed to looking too far forwards as all 88 inches do and still keeping std parts.

hi thanks
whats the thinking on spacers to lift or rotate the axle i have friends at a machine shop who can make some for me. I am not bothered about lifting the suspension just thought parabolics were the way to go

yeah i took some off the casting of the prop it helped but i didnt want to go too far!
maybe ill have another go!!
