Hi guys, daughter is supposed to be going on the Salisbury run tomorrow, yet ATS have just fitted 2 new tyres, and told us that the o/s reaf diff is leaking badly - DO NOT DRIVE IT !

Understandably she is gutted and p'd off, and I'm trying to help... I don't mind getting dirty, but really don't have the knowledge to fit one of those ! Do you know of anyone between Chichester (nearest dealership that have a seal in stock), and Horsham that might be able to fit it tomorrow morning ?

Real long shot I know, but it's got to be worth asking...

Thanks !

Pete

Hmmmm I wonder, is your daughter on here anyway???😏

Depends where it is leaking from. If its the plug a Landy garage will do it in half hour

Steve_R1979 is in Horsham
Disco147 in Chichester
Snifflebag........ish
Tarantula
Choppertrash, just about.

I'll see if I can rustle up some numbers........DAFT!!!!!

Thanks guys ! All I know is, ATS guy says "the drum is covered in smelly diff oil" so the seal must have gone, as it's p1$$ing out

I've knelt underneath, and looking at the back of the hub, there are damp patches, although I reckon they look like they've been there for ages...

LR Dealer says it's most likely the rear axle oil seal/ inner hub seal. They don't have one in stock, but Chichester do. I can't see Chichester being able to fit it on a Saturday morning...

Yes Emma is already on here (and loves it !), and I'm gutted that this long awaited trip is not gonna happen for her :-(

Just wish I knew more about these things, and even though Haynes makes it look straightforward, there's far more chance I will screw it up completely !

You ahve come to the right place if anyone can help these guys can and will do everything to help. I bet the phones are red hot down your way right now...

Dafts looking for numbers and Rats is asleep or eating chips. Hopefully be a few contacts in a bit.

Pm your phone number to 'The Mad Hat Man' or me if you can't find him

As a start have you removed the diff filler plug to see how much EP90 is in there?

The diff on the rear axle is in the middle and your looking for the square plug fixed to the pan as you look at the vehicle from behind.

A 1/2" ratchet (with extension) will fit in there, undo it all the way and dip your finger inside. Fluid should be upto this plug.

Easy to check, takes 5 minutes and may put your mind at ease.
