Question before I break something, the coloured side part of the front bumper / nose cone, is it possible to take them of for painting. Seems to be a separate part so thought I would ask.

Yes could mask it up just easier to paint it inside the shed ( as don't have a garage).

If its anything like the pre facelift, the whole bumper/valance comes off as a single bit of plastic.

You have to remove any A Bar/Bull Bars first, then undo all the little screws around the bottom edge and wheel arches, pull back the wheel arch to undo a bolt at the top that goes vertically into the wing, remove various screws and scrivets in the 'middle' where it joins the bonnet slam and around the grill/rad area - then slide it off as a single bit.

Can be a confusing and tiresome job the first time you do it - especially if all the little screws are rusted and need drilling/dremelling out.

That may not be a complete list of tasks, its a while since I did it last - and as I say mines a pre facelift.

It's part of the bumper and is masked off before painting in the bumper making factory.
I used to paint them.

It's actually a separate panel, held in with one way clips on the back. It is possible to remove it, but runs the risk of breaking off the clips. ;)

The slots for the clips are clearly visible in this facelift bumper.

Ahh.. my bad. I'm a Tratterer and the only things I know about Freelanders is the first ones had plastic wings and bumpers as I have described. Anything after 1999 (?) Haven't a clue:D

The pre-facelift was a one piece bumper, however they made them more complicated when they did the facelift. ;)

Cheers, thought that may have been the case, will have a go I think. its going to be very difficult to mask it that tight.
There are amazing double sided tape that will hold it back in place...….. I know some will cringe but hey if it works and gets a better looking finish.

Not going to remove it all to get at the clips.

Nodge,
Quick question, do these unclip easy if off the car?
What I am thinking is buying a front bumper in silver form scrap yard. seen a couple with good panels.
Unclipping them then it doesn't matter if I snap my current ones off.

If I got hold of a front bumper with the round lights in, is the wiring in the loom as standard or would I have to add it?

Front fog lights do you mean? The wiring should be there for the fogs. You'll find the wires hanging under the bumper corners somewhere. To make them work, you'll need the relays and the switch, which is hard to find and expensive when you do.
