Hi all,

I have some found some rust patches on my 90;
one of them is on the steel frame on one of the rear corners.

I want to treat this before it spreads further and I could do with a bit of guidence:eek:

How would I go about doing this? I'm thinking of getting a wire brush to get the majority of the rust off, then using "Hammerite Kurust" to treat the rusty area.

Should I then just use some filler to fill the bits I've brushed away, spray some primer on it and to finish it off spray on a few layers of paint?

Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about the rear crossmember below the rear door?

If its just surface rust, I'd just use a wire brush/sandpaper to get rid of it and take it back to clean metal before priming and popping a few coats of paint on top, or use something like hammerite which generally doesnt require a primer and is pretty hard wearing to boot.

Sorry for the confusion.

Body cappings...:) mask off above and below to protect alloy, sand off or small wire brush. Rust Killer or Kurust is fine. Your local auto paint shop will mix you a spray can to finish and advise on primer and filler.

Thanks MrJC,
My apologies for being stupid... Should I use body cappings then?
Or should I not bother and just treat the rust, fill, prime and spray paint?

Unless you are leaking water from your body cappings into your Landy I would do a cosmetic repair... I had to replace mine. Easy when you have done it once but roof, rear door and sides off then drill old ones off and rivet new ones on... then re seal and try and get it water tight again :)
Just tart it up... if it aint bust, dont fix it! New body cappings are about £80...

Thanks mate, I dont think I'll be needing the body cappings (yet).
I will have a go at it over the weekend if it stays dry:rolleyes:

Thanks to everyone else for the replies!
