I've just bought a 1991 ex MoD Defender 110 that (I believe) is painted NATO green (MoD code 4666). Can anyone tell me me If I can determine exactly what colour the old girl was originally sprayed from the chassis number or the VIN? (not sure if VIN numbers were around then?)

Yes they were...but no you cant. You can try tracing it through the military records and see if the colour is stated there...google it..i cant be arsed.

If she was MOD then she probably left the factory in Nato Green.

i think there are 31 different shades of NATO green

Thanks. So it looks as if there is no way of ensuring an exact match if there are 31 diffrent shades. Somehow I knew I'd end up doing the whole damn thing. Needs doing anyway - bit faded now.
