My 2000 (X) Vogue 4.6 (82K miles)has been a dream to own and drive, but I have noticed that it seems a little uneasy at around 70-80mph. It's as if it cant make its mind up to to change gear and almost seems to surge then ease off. Its the same with cruise control on or off, I have noticed too, that it doesn't seem to have the same pick up that it had previously when accelerating away.

I've just had my first error message (airbags) which I'm going to get looked at, she also seems to take longer to go from turning the key to all the lights out on the dash and her being at the correct ride height, but I've put this down to winter

I'm about to book her in for a full service and will get them to have a look at the fault message too, any one any suggestions as to what it might be???

Ten years old and 82K miles equals time to replace the airbags. It is also time to replace the oil in the auto box if it hasn't already been done.

Cheers for that Datatek, already been suggested to me that the auto box oil needs doing, but nice to hear it from a different source.

By air bags are you referring to the SRS airbsags or the air suspension?

All advice greatly appreciated

the suspension airbags go porous after a while and need replacing I do mine every 5 years they are good for 10 but I do a lot of mules in europe so better safe than sorry

Sandy, out of interest what am I looking at cost wise from non stealer to get these done? I'm planning to get a big service done, its just a question of if I get it all done in one hit or spread it out over two months.

It could be the MAF sensor. I had low power issues and the gear box used to hunt on uphill motorway sections, I also had poor acceleration from standstill which I didn't know I had until I put the new one on!! One of the easiest diy jobs you will have to do on these and approx £120 for a genuine MAF (always go genuine on a MAF)

As has been said could be the auto box oil needs changing.

SRS lights might just be the yellow connector under the drivers seat needs an unplug and reconnection, that sometimes works but don't hold your breath, or it could be the steering rotary coupler in the steerindg wheel.

Wheres your location? There are a few mobile Landie specialists who will change the air springs. Approx £250 for OE springs plus labour to fit them which could vary between £50 and £500 depending on whether they think you know your way around a Rangie or not!!

Just use a Landrover specialist for jobs like that because your average garage wouldn't even know what an air spring looked like.

Who mentioned SRS, he was talking about airsuspension unless your SRS airbags inflate when you start your car.

Get the gearbox oil filter changed at the same time as the oil:D

I miss understood, I didn't think you could an error message for air springs just an eas fault so assumed when air bags were mentioned it was the srs light, aswell as the air springs being slow to fill. I stand corrected.

Thanks gents, have got an SRS warning light on on the dash too, just came on over the weekend.

The RR's up in Catterick Village at the moment with my other half, although I'm Wiltshire based (Wooton Bassett), was planning to use the village garage in Catterick for the big service, they have a good reputation plus deal with a lot of 4x4's for the farmers.

The issues at the moment are:

1. Big service(82K), I know its been serviced yearly for the last three years but dont know what's been done as they stopped filling the service record in. Up 72K it had been serviced yearly, ahead of the mileage as it was/is low mileage. Planning to get them to do the oil in the auto box, was thinking about airbags in the suspension too as she's taking her time to get to the full height. Is there anything else I should be getting them to check as a matter of urgency???

2. Sluggishness from acceleration, no problem gently accelerating, but a bit ropey when putting your foot on the gas - Has been suggested as auto box oil and poss MAF sensor.

3. Error message on dash - Airbag fault and SRS red warning light on, on the dashboard, suggested that it might be a loose connection.Although manual does say to get airbags serviced at 10 yrs

OK I was wrong, it is SRS. Usual problem is the connectors under the seats to the side airbags, plug/unplug a couple of times. Otherwise rotary coupler behind steering wheel. Get fault codes read.

Go with the simple oil change first in the gearbox. Change the exhaust valve in the eas block. Its a 2 minute job and can give you hell with the eas. its £20 quid for a little filter/exhast. Now Air bags. My 2000 4.0 has 130k and just about to change air bags. Buy them first 115 a pair delivered (dunlop originals) from island 4x4. you may pay upto £400 for exacly the same plus fitting. Should not take more that an hout to do each for an experienced mechanic.
