P38 vibration.

Hi, a mate of mine has a P38 that has a vibration and we cant find where it is coming from.It can be felt through the floor of the vehicle, and it is as if say you had something in a tyre,ie it is being caused by something that is rotating.It is not any of the propshafts as these have been removed and it is still there, nor is it any of the wheels or tyres,as they have been swopped for others.The discs and calipers seem ok as none of the wheels are binding.Diffs and shafts seem ok. ANY IDEA"S ANYONE?

Diesel or petrol ? might help with answer`s, one thing to check on diesel`s is front crank pulley damper.

I had some vibration on certain road surfaces, and also a lot of wandering and swooping. I had 18" wheels with a brand new set of Pirelli Scorpions. Eventually advised that such handling appears to be a feature when you fit wheels larger than 16" so I swapped and the problem went away.

Within reason larger wheels should not change the handling of your car or make it wander. But they will exaggerate any play in the steering gear or suspension bushes. Some tyres have been known to alter steering characteristics even if the steering gear is sound. My car is on 19" wheels and is as if on rails. So fitting larger wheels alone is not the the root cause. 18" should be fine on a P38 they are standard factory fit. So it would be down to worn suspension bushes or steering gear, bad alignment or tyres rather than the size of the wheels.

I also run 19" and have no wandering or vibration problems

The vibration is depedant on speed of vehicle or speed of engine?

So, is it derv or petrol?

Auto box or manual?

And as it has no prop shafts (QUOTE: It is not any of the propshafts as these have been removed ) is it under tow?

Guessing he removed one and drove it and then replaced it and removed the other one and tried again?

He seems to have disappeared. Maybe the prop snapped off and came up through the floor giving him a steel enema?

OOH! Ya don't want one of them. Was offered an enema in hospital, told them to shove it up their arse

hi again folks, the vehicle is diesel and auto, and yes,the propshafts were removed one at a time. the vibration starts as soon as the vehicle begins to pick up speed.

Have you checked the half shafts?

Harmonic Dampener on the diff(s)?

Wheel bearings?

Steering geometry?

Tyre Delamination internally?

U/J's phased correctly and the U/Js are solid in the yokes?
