Hi All,

Let's face it, we all love the Range Rover, yeah they have issues but they are one of the best motors in their class.

So come on, lets put together a list of recommended and important options or updates we would recommend to any new owner.

What have you changed, added or would you wanna get to enhance your P38.

Also if anyone can uplaod some pics of the later Alpine HK system wires would be helpful. I mean behind the headunit and connections.

I like the original look of the late P38 with its clear lens indicators, black surround headlights and other little things they did to update the model as it got past 99 BUT I still think the addition of the running boards, roof rack + cross bars, nudge bars and front spotlights add to the presence of the vehicle that little bit more. Whether a new owner of a P38 could obtain all these bits now is questionable, it took me almost 2 and a half years to get all those bits, the roof rack and the nudge bars being the most difficult to get hold of.

mine started as a p38
but now its got .....

l322 headlights
l322 indicators
l322 fogs
l322 rear light clusters
l322 front bumper
l322 back bumper
l322 spoiler with hi level brake light
l322 style taligate - made to fit !
l322 grill
chrome mirror caps
chrome door handle caps
chrome number plate surrounds
chrome tubular side steps
full set of chrome badges
20 inch wheels
Psi power box

ther may be other bits as well .. can't remember

what can i do next !

Extras on mine are
scratches on lower sills and both bumpers, could do with a bit more ground clearance
Mud everywhere, most of the time
two sets of interior mats, one smart and one covered in mud and oil etc
heavy duty towing bracket

No need for bull bars, big chromed wheels, spot lights or blacked out windows etc. If you want them go and buy an X5.

I would go for practical mods - tornado chips or similar - goes like stink mid range now. New battery - just to make sure! manual air suspension inflation capacity - just in case, add some k-seal (or Irontite) to the coolant - again just in case.

If the car is new to you or has done 100k;
Replace perished air springs
" EAS height sensors
" " compressor - or rebuild it
" valve block drive pack
" the engine radiator and all cooling hoses
" Matrix O rings
" Drivers door window reg
" Blend motors, and ease the distribution flap.
" the rusty brake pipes
" all oils,autobox filter etc
" In tank fuel pump if its a diesel.
Do these - it will cost a few quid, and enjoy it.Thing is now we know what fails in old age with these cars you can sort it before it happens, most of it went wrong from ignorance or ignoring.
If its a petrol v8 with LPG,forget single point - only use a decent sequential system, set up using the proper kit by one who understands.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the ideas...

Side Steps and A Bar would be good, i keep wanting to update the standard Audio with HK to allow me an IPOD connection, but keep being told it is a real nightmare.

Can someone please advise, i dont want to loose the wheel controls or the fantastic sound the system produces.

Is it possible to put a chip on the 4.6 ? would that not cause other problems with cooling ?

I must agree the later ones with clear lights and the blackened headlights really do look so much fresher..

I have also just replaced the battery, the radiator, two new air springs (rears to follow in spring) new altenator, new tyre (£200). I am hoping that all this (not to mention the tornado chips and magnecore leads) will mean I get some trouble free motoring although I suspect not.

P38s may be cheap to buy but a cheap car they are not!! Makes my old 200Tdi seem like running a mini!

It's ace though!
