sold me p38 got her cheap sold it cheap got fed up with paying out every week .and before you say well a cheap one this? that ?money pit etc i already know that iv had a few , disco's pet/Desi/gas,classic rr p/d/gas p38's had 2 pet/gas both cost a bomb to keep on road and to run,and yes i do use them o/road .
now changed my job haven't got much time to play but still go soft/off road shooting green laning and sometimes even go over curbs.
and in a 1800 freelander 5dr do's wot it says on the box well happy with it,
and no it won't ever be a disco/r,rover but it isn't meant to be.
it is cheap to run ,and the heater works well:D

Some people on this forum knock the Freelander but its very good as a car for every day use.
Petrols have a problem with the head gasket but when replaced with the improved gasket its good.
They don,t rust unlike other similar age Land Rovers
Any problems with the four wheel drive just remove the rear drive shaft.

What have you been smoking? 1.8 k series:doh: TD4 or not at all

i would have liked a td4 but its all down to money. this 1 didn't cost a lot and i don't expect a lot,
all normal jobs have been done by least owner he spent loads on it ,i have all recipes
h/gasket
g/box
clutch
etc etc

rather you than me

'remove rear prop' why not just go and buy a pushbike?

Most jap 4x4 drive around in 2 wheel drive.

Nothing wrong with the petrol engine.
The K series was a big step forward in engine building in its day just let down by a bad gasket and plastic locating pins on the block.

and bad thermodynamics, bad design, engineering, implementation, build quality and general workmanship - apart from that it was fine

Bollocks as I know two machine shops who will say the same, even with full uprated kit-they are ****e

he who pays the money makes the choice!!!

spot on my money the rest is history,I'm not saying its as good has ? but it will do for now,
it will never replace my old disco work horse .
or power/comfort of the p38
and when i have the cash for a classic then well were see.
but everything works on the f/l probably not for long but ha ho:)

it is akin to living with a ticking bomb(owning a k series) you never quite know when it is going to blow up in your face, on my fifth k series now in 25 years, but i have only ever changed headgaskets on them, and as i can repair it myself it doesn't cost mega bucks to sort it out.

At the end of the day, I base my opinions on experiance (YES - I have had one) and good engineering practice.
If you want to buy one - fine - just dont kid yoself its good.

well i think mine is ok and please note i have owned a lot of **** landys and dare say i will again ,i had an old ldv pickup that was much better than my disco now they are **** but did its job better.
ps had some v/good ones as well.
