Hi guys my names charlie and im from glasgow , im new to the forum and range rovers in general ,

I've got a rr p38 4.6 hse auto and last night I went to watch the hockey at braehead , parked the car up in the car park around half 6 and returned to it at 11 but when I got back to it the car wouldn't unlock through the fob and the small alarm light on the dash wasn't on either although the car was still locked , I unlocked it with the key and tried to start it to no avail just an srs light and couple of lights on the heater controls came on but it would not even think about starting , I tried the eka procedure again to no avail so left it where it sat until this morning ....went back to it pressed the button it unlocked then fired straight up .......any ideas guys eg rf interference or something cause im stumped

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You nailed it. RF interference from wireless CCTV or other devices. You need to fit the latest RF Receiver before it burns you locks or leaves you stranded with a flat battery.
:welcome2: to the world of pain that is owning a Range Rover

Ha ha thanks guys was totally stumped last night luckily the missus was close by and picked me up so datatek where about do I get one of the latest rf receiver thingymabobs lol

hi , what year is your car ? if younger than late 2000 you will have to buy a new rf reciever part no ywy500170 this will have a green sticker on as its the series 3.... others i.e. series 1 and 2 have blue sticker on and due to modern cctv ,, mobile teephone masts and high output computer traffic , the 1 & 2 cannot cope cos there set at 433mhz or thereabouts ,,,so landrover modifyd them hence series 3 and once youve bought one @ approx 180 quid then you will have no more problems ,, try island 4x4 or emmotts of colne or other reputable dealers even the stealer but be very wary buying on e-bay as the scalys just clean the old ones up and stick a nice new green sticker on them ,,so basically your buying one exactly the same as youv'e got ,,, the best way to check its in the rear drivers side compartment behind the shelf ledge ,,access= remove rear parcel shelf fully . on the top of right hand side trim is button to let back seat down press that drop seat and look at side of trim and see philips screw remove that ,, then on edge of side trim shelf holder there is 3 blank studs carefully prise them out with flat bladed knife and remove them and then holding each end of top shelf lift up and away from window ,,,then look inside near to where the seat release button was and theres a black box approx size of two matchboxs with a single BLUE wire to the top and BROWN AND a grey wire to the bottom .. no need to do anything except tell me the colour of the round sticker ??? i bet it will be blue ,,,i will watch this thread and come back when youve answered if your really stuck P.M. me and il'l give you my mobile no and you can ring anytime and will help you ok mate cheers for now MOZZ.

Mozz, as far as I can find out the latest receiver type was never fitted in production, it came out after the end of production. The coloured sticker is not a reliable way to check which version you have, it needs to come out of it's box to be compared to the photo's you, I and others have posted. There are naughty folks who put old receivers in new boxes:mad:

You posted them a while back Mozz, I'm sure it was you:confused::)

I had a similar problem in Scheveningen in Holland when I parked too close to a Nato Transmitter. Confused the hell out of the Truck which wouldn't respond to the key at all. A knowledgeable local helped me to push it down the hill 30 yards and normal service was resumed. Weird

Couldn't get the photo into an existing thread so posted it in a new thread:- RF receiver types Photo of the internals[/b]
