Hi everyone,
was wondering if anyone knew whats going on with my P38. 4.0 on an N plate auto. Wont start first time everytime, sometimes wont fire at all, others it will fire then stall and finally she fires and runs perfectly.

The only messages on the dashboard are rearside light bulb failure and LH rear window fault. The engine check light comes on sometimes but no other messages. Once running she drives great no power loss / misfires?. I have cleaned all the known leads new plugs.

Clues- seems worse when cold but still sometimes does it after 10 miles drive, petrol stop then wont start on the forecourt.

Please help and or advise. Many thanks for reading this far :)

Hi Steve

I know this may sound strange, but have you actually got a rear bulb failure and does the rear window not work? or are these messages inaccurate.

Also when the engine won't start have you worked out what is stopping it, ie fuel or spark?

Just some thoughts that might focus down to the fault.

Hi Andy,
as for the window error it works perfectly and I have just finished replacing the bulb. We have been around every sensor we can see and removed cleaned and replaced but with no joy. As for whats stopping the engine, new plugs fitted and fuel pressure is fine (even filled the tank to the brim to make sure it had enough!)

Cheers

have you checked fuel pressure first thing in morning, i.e before any attempt to start it?

also might be worth checking spark is there also first thing.

i have a feeling if spark is fine then its prolly fuel draining back overnight/period of time stood and/or water temp sensor possibly???

Thanks to everyone who has viewed and offered guidance. We have cleaned the cam position sensor and it has improved no end, no starts pretty much everytime one the second turn. Fuel filter next just to be sure, does anyone know if there is an aftermarket cam sensor out there as main dealer seems very price?

Cheers
