Hi All,

In past two days and maybe could be down to hot weather, my P38 petrol Range Rover (4.6HSE) seems to be failing to start on the odd occasion which it never ever has done until now.

It occurred yesterday afternoon when getting back into car after having left warm for about an hour, then also on first start this morning. Although car sat in baking sun and temp outside was 47 degrees. The aircon system failed recently and is about to be overhauled, could it be fuel evaporation somewhere due to heat or possibly another issue?

Thanks for any advice.

If the temp was 47 Degrees I would have thought the fuel in the Injector rail had Evaporated ....

This is understandable at 47 degrees. Air at that temp is very thin so the fueling would be leaned out by the ECU to maintain the correct ratio. I woiuld think it could be difficult to start when engine is hot. All the temp sensors, inlet air, engine temp and fuel temp have to be **** hot in those conditions. Any sort of misreading from any one of them would give problems. Then there's the added problem of unleaded petrol being crap.

Great I'm not going mad then, thanks for all replies. Will have to park under a tree or something - doesn't help that car is dark graphite grey either, nice sun soaker! Cheers.

cheers man;
i have the same also and i have no fault codes stored in the testbook,temperature is very high also.i searched in this forum and onother one and seems when u don't have any faults stored and u have this starting problem there is something screwed in the fuel pressure regulator or vacuum hoses or air leaks somewhere in the pipes or even leaking injectors,with all do respect to everybody i don't think this is normal to happen coz of hot weather,than all p38 should do that and if all of them is doing that than we will have thousands of posts here complaining about this issue.i am trying to figure it out also,please if u find the cure please let me know about it.
good like

i have the same issue also please if u found a cure let me know i doubt it is coz of only hot weather (hat up to all of the gents),if it is the case of hot weather then all of the p38 will suffer the same things which is not the case.put a testbook on and check for faults,if it is only the hot weather then starting from cold should not be a problem (in the morning).
what i am sure about in my case is that i have fuel evaporating from the filler tank which leaves an evaporative fuel pipe loose,dunno if it is coz of that or leaks in vacuum tubes.in my case there is no faults stored in the engine ecu.good luck man
