Its coming from under the bonnet, right side. Not belts or pullys as I removed the belts to rule them out.

Only happens under load or foot down rev up from idle. It sounds like 2 pieces of metal rubbing together and squeaking and doesn't do it if I drive like Miss Daisy.

I've seen a post on Rangerovers.net that it could be the manifold although I can't feel anything blowing at all anywhere so was wondering if any other P38 V8 owners have had the same experience and what fixed it?

Hasn't got any, I researched whether it was important to replace them and it seems not.
Stuck something on YouTube if anyone cares to look/listen.
Watch at 480p, the lower quality muffles the squeak a lot.

EDIT, it does have a blow just after the o/s cat but it isn't coming from there.

Cheers.

cant hear anyhing on video,,,

if it sounds like a belt slipping/chirping bird it may be the begining of a head gasket blowing on the air side,,, mine did this for a while then started to sound like a steam engine (n/s bank)

Yup, just like a belt chirp but repeating rather than constant.
Head gaskets were replaced a few weeks ago although it was a DIY job and to be honest, I did notice that both sides of the gasket were different (one side has the shiny bit between the pistons and the other side has gasket between the pistons).
I can't remember which way round it was fitted as it did fit both ways although I looked at the old (blown) gasket (genuine LR) and copied that, think it was shiney side up.

Not the answer I wanted to hear really but thats also the second time I've heard the head gasket suggested. Exactly where does it blow from as this definately sounds like the manifold area.

take a look at the front and rear prop shaft when the UJs are on the way out they start squeaking etc easy job to do and cheap leave it to long they can snap and do damage under the vehicle etc

Thanks for the replies but after posting and the suggestion of checking the head gasket, it turns out that it is possible to fit a head gasket upside down.

Ah well, I'm geting used to pulling the heads off the bastard so no big deal although the fact that the only negative effect is the blowing/squeaking, I'll choose a decent enough day to do it.

if you start to miss it once yours are fixed you can always come and do mine! :p

Lol. This will be 3rd time now, 4th time for the inlet manifold.
Wouldn't be so bad if antifreeze wasn't £16 a gallon although I've now learnt to catch most of it and re-use.

BTW, it isn't all the cars fault, only the 1st one, the rest is my fault, learning as I go.
2nd was an LPG backfire/stripped head bolts, then this one and the inlet manifold off between 1 & 2 to swap a lifter.

Oh the fun hehe.

mine was on the n/s bank around the 3rd piston (front to back) on the side by the exhaust manifold.. had a 1-2" gap in it..

I'll get a pic of mine. Had a worklight pointed down there, o/s bank, between 2nd & 3rd pots (4 & 6) and I'd swear I could see the gasket sticking out of the side between the head and the block, metal bits aswell. Doesn't look happy.
