P38 Remote Receiver Problems

Found someone that sells them at least locally for £150 or so. Britpart wouldn't sell directly to me as it was a "wholesale part". Grrrrrr. If anyone could let me know where I could get a replacement procedure and if it's feasible for a non-car person to fit it or not I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers all.

Any non-car person can do it. Remove the offside rear trim above the rear wheel. The RF receiver sits on the bracket that the back seat clips to. It has two plugs. One with one wire (aerial connector) and one with two wires. Remove fuse F15 to remove the power to the amp (although they can be changed without doing this but if you want to be electrically correct, remove the fuse) and then it's just unplug old and plug in new. Replace fuse. Nothing else to do. It's only a RF receiver. The BeCM does any decoding.

Sorted! As you said Derek it was very straight forward. The new RF receiver is now in and one added benefit is I can now open and lock the car from more than 2cm away. I didn't realise just how close I had to be before until the new receiver was in. Hopefully that will be the end of the dreaded battery drain. With the number of Wifi and other networks here it will certainly test it to the limit anyway.

Once again the advice here has been superb. Many thanks all.

Reactive freqency of capacitor is calculated using -
Formual is 13442/2Pi FC - gives value of shunt cap for frequency

Either the aerial has gone or the RF receiver is shot. I suppose you looked at the right box? The radio amp is in the same place.
