P38 Rear doors wont Unlock!!!HELP!!!

Hey im wondering if theres anyone who can help me.I have a problem with my rear door locks on my P38,when i go to open them they wont open from the inside or out.both my front doors and tailgate are fine,its just the back doors.when i lock the car it sounds like the rear locks are locking.

Im wondering if there is any way to bypass them so when i open my car i can lean over and unlock it from the latch inside manually.
any help would be much appreciated

sounds strange for both to have gone, must be something electrical.

have they both gone together?

It sounds like both have superlocked which would indicate erroneous signals from the BECM. It's a new one on me though. Have you ever used the superlocking on the car? Maybe possible it's been superlocked at one time but the back doors are not getting the signal to unlock?

yeh they both went at the same time and ive used the super locking before,it was fine do u rekon there could be any way around it some how? cheers for replying

Had similar to this last year. The car could only be unlocked in stages. Turned out it was the driver's door lock actuator which is kind of the master one. I also had to do the front passenger's one shortly afterwards. Short of trial and error a plug in to Testbook will check each one in turn. Check the electrical connectors inside the driver's door first though. The ones down at the lock end.

For the two to go at the same time it must be something that controls them both as I found.

My drivers door isn't working on the central locking at the moment but the other three still operate normally. Only the tailgate won't open until I unlock the drivers door with the key. This is using normal locking only though, not super locking. I don't know whether it makes any difference or not. Also, mine's a '98. You don't say what year yours is - maybe there's a difference depending on year.

Derek, I would almost certainly say your prob is the driver's door lock actuator. This one specifically covers the tailgate.

I've had a quick look and it is the actuator. Just not had time to do anything with it when I was home (or the weather). Pretty sure the CDL motor is u/s. To be continued when I get home in March. Cheers for the advice.

Just had the same problem with mine, even tho the range rover is an 06 plate, seems the problems have been there for years and land rover have done nothing about them. Anyways if you hold open the lock and the handle from the inside and then press the remote or the main switch on the dash, this opens the door. The actuator is either sticking and or not getting the full signal. Pulling the levers on the inside just helps put some extra movement on without the actuator having to go its full travel, this worked each time on trying, but the remote system still won't open the door as normal, but you can try and see. You could also have someone pull the handle on the outside to help as well.

Trouble is, if Fuzzies doors are superlocked, it isn't going to help. The system uses a separate motor for the superlocking which effectively disconnects both internal and external handles. The only way to 'un'superlock it is via the fob / BECM. Or taking the door card off to get at the mechanism. Not easy when it's shut.

Just a thought, fuse 14 under the seat covers the rear door locks (and tailgate/ fuel flap). Is that ok?

Having re-read original message, probably is as tailgate working and doors are making a locking noise.

Disconnect battery and leave for 30 mins to re-set things, maybe or just pull fuse 14 for a bit to see if you can trick it into thinking it's disconnected. Just a straw-grasping afterthought.

yep mines a 98 aswell, and i have tried what you said broon,it doesnt work thanks for the help though.ive had the rear door cards of just to see if there was an electrical problem,there werent any problems there.i thought about taking the locks out,but as derek said they are quite a challenge to get to with the doors closed,ill take a look a look at my drivers door tomorrow though to check the connections. well ive checked fuse 14 and looked in my drivers door to c if there were any loose connections, tried holding both indoor and outdoor handles and pressing my fob.Still no joy.
I Was going to dissconnect my battery to see if it would reset,but i was worried about it resetting everything and i dont have my EKA code.
any more suggestions would be much appreciated

A main dealer should give you your EKA code free if you show them your registration document. I've done it twice in the past year with both of ours. It's the cheapest visit you'll ever make to them.

Well ive finally got my rear doors open,it wound me up so i took the rear panels off,snipped the wires connecting to the lock mechanism around three inches away from it,then got a cigarette lighter adapter for a phone cut the phone connection end off,then connected the wires to the orange and black wires on the lock with my ignition on, and easy as that the locks opened i dont have central locking on the back doors but itll do me for now as i can lock and unlock them by hand.this only took me 15 minutes to do and didnt cost a penny so if anybody has a problem like this in the future its just a quick and easy way to unlock your doors you can always join the wires back up when you get time thanks for the help anyway guys

Hi All, have same rear door not opening, but sat inside and held door handle whilst pressing dash unlock button it worked but only repeatedly, now i cant close really doors as they wont shut as normal door latches seem to be in the door closed position stopping the doors from closing...any help would be appreciated very much im just stopping short of thrashing the bonnet with a tree branch like Basil Fawlty!! Help!!!

Strange nobody said to check the white block connectors for corrosion. They are behind the panel, drivers side footwell, bottom of the A post.

Can you not flip the latches back into the open position with a screwdriver while you operate the door handle ?

Thanks Alan, will try screwdriver on latches not sure which way to flip the latches but nothing to lose at the moment might be a trip to my local garage who are good, ill get back to you if successful thanks again appreciated Jeff.

Just replicate the door striker, screwdriver in where the striker would engage, operate the handle and move the screwdriver towards the interior of the car. The latch should disengage.
