L322 any day !

people go and buy a P38 and then end up changing the bumper and lights to look like the L322, even after all the hassel it still looks crap imo...

remember prices are starting to rise again as everyones buying 4x4's ready for our heaps of snow this winter ! - (i cant wait) :)

Wouldn't say no to an L322! The wife dribbles over them!
I'll have one some day when funds allow but my ideal would be a TDV8 so could be waiting a while!

But I'm with you on light conversions. The P38 should only look like one thing...
a P38.

yep got to agree, the l322 has the looks over the P38 - they just look wrong when there fitted with sport conversions ! lol

and yea TDv8 sounds nice - also sounds juicy tho ! haha

think im just going to get my td6 remapped for now :D

well said...l322 all the way.i still use my old p38 now and again and it has year 2000> light upgrade inc black inserted headlights and black inserted driving lamps looks classy. as for l322 lights in a p38 well.. yes totally crap

My opinion is dont spend it on a P38 unless you want a comfy off roader, they are fast becoming an old car, they are getting very worn out, and have lots and lots of problems, I should know, I bought mine seemingly in a very good condition, had lots of new bits, and parts, but has had endless small bits failing (I still absolutely love my car, and HAVE now fixed most problems, but in my heart I know the next problem is only round the corner)

what other cars have you owned ? , this is rubbish and scare mongering really, ANY AND EVERY car thats 10-15 years old will have things go wrong, small bits can and will go on any car, cars cost money to keep on the road , if you dont want niggles or problems go buy a brand new car on finance... new cars even, never get niggles or little or major things go wrong now do they  its just cars mate, they break and go wrong at times, but ANY older car will need things doing to it regular and maintaining and repairing.

you dont think l322`s will start going wrong ? and will probably be more costly to fix than p38`s ... , escpecialy when your 2nd/3rd owner...

Polsta, very good point you make. I like both models but the P38 has a classier more British appeal to it. I was just wanting to know what to look out for on either model. From what I can gather the gearbox is weak on the L322 and the engine on the P38? And of course the air suspension on both.

I've been looking around, out of curiosity and the fact next july when we sell the motor home, there needs to be a replacement to the 300 discothe old mans bought to replace a 300 disco

There's a lovely example of a p38 - 2.5 in a dealers near Taunton wants £6.3 k for it (AS Motors) but it looks great!

Ho Ho Ho, are you been sarcastic or do you think new cars don't have problems? If you want problems, try Nissan Xtrail or Navarra. My 10 year old P38 has been a paragon of reliablility by comparison:)

Ten is no age, my 25 year old MR2 is totaly reliable.

i agree !!! (from what ive read on here) they are a bit more refined than classics and more comfortable, a classy and comfortable and british 4x4, yet lots of electrics and gizmos etc, yet still do not look a million miles from a classic and still look country "range rover"

the l322s, to me, are new breed sort of flash not really country looking/feeling chelsea tractors

Well said.

also its possible ? that in comming years, p38s, the nice looked after maintained ones, that evade breaking etc, might well increase a bit being sought after by those who want an old school/classis looking range rover, over l322s that fall in price etc, with classics becoming rarer by the year

the new look range rovers, along with the sports, real new free landers, discos, that horrible new defender, all seem to be aimed at that wags, flash footballers bling bling type market now

pulled up in my p38 last week at work, 2 silly little late teen chavvy girls walking along, one went "oooh nice car" ...the other one walked round the back like she was all clever/smart arse and looked at the badges and went "oh its not a sport" :D

lmao !

I guess looks are subjective! I liked my classic but never really loved it - I adored the P38 from the day it was launched and still do. The L322 is too blingy, but I guess I'll reluctantly buy one (TDV8) when the P38 becomes too old.

id like a go and a good look round in a classic, as i sold a disco i liked and enjoyed but never quite loved, and wanted a classic but couldnt find a nice diesel, and then couldnt find a nice defender with a 5k budget i increased from 3k , and then spend 2k on a lovely p38 im still getting to know but i love it, i do wonder what id make of a classic now (ive never been in one) , and much more comfortable and luxurious than a defender and suits my needs more

Im new to Range Rover ownership and have a 1998 4.0, I love it and to me it says brought and paid for old money, the new Rangies are all black with the blacked out windows and chaved up wheels which just says New money/Drug dealer/Pimp/WAGS. The only way the new ones are classy is if they are on sensible wheels and are a nice blue or Sage green type colour. I have always had BL cars recently retiring my Rover Sterling saloon, which I could turn up in anywhere and not disgrace myself, old money everytime, save some dosh and still look posh in a P38.

My classic was quite young and fresh when I bought it - but it still wandered like a Essex boy on heat. The P38 drives so much better and feels so much better put together, yes the L322 is better still in terms of driving dynamics but I think it's almost too car-like. The P38 is a happy medium.

I ran a p38 diesel county for six years and loved it . Left landies briefly and went to the BMW x5 dark side but very disappointed . Doors froze shut in the winter and poor in the snow! Bought an L322 td6 in may and still feel pleased to get in and drive it. Didn't like the looks when they first came out but they grow on you ..
