hi can any one please help me?

Iv been told by landrover that my p38 4.0SE needs a new oil pump as the oil warning light kept coming on after an oil change. iv read else where that this is a common fault and is due to sludge in the oil pan but landrover assure me i need a new pump and want £1200 to do it for me.

Is this a difficult job to do (is it something i could do my self?) and how long would it take a garage to do it for me? Does the engine need lifting to access the pump?

the oil light is no longer coming on and the knocking noise has stopped so im now as reluctant as ever to handover £1200

thanks in advance

Greg

have they had the sump off?

I'd find a good independent as they are wallet raping you

New oil pump will cost around £60 from Rimmers or Island 4X4. Drop te sump and check the strainer is not clogged.
Oil pump is located in the timing chain cover and is driven by a key on the end of the crankshaft.
Main Dealer will tell you that the pump is part of the cover and not sold separately, hence the £1200.
