p38 mud tyres

Hi all. Took my p38 off roading last w-end on a pay-n-play day, and had a great day out. Being on 235-70-16 scorpions I wasn`t tempted into the softer stuff where a couple of bob-tailed rangies were being winched out though! Given that I need a set of mud tyres so I can into the sticky stuff, and hopefully out again, I reckon on getting the biggest diameter possible, without modding the body. Should give a bit more air under the diffs. rangerovers.net seem to say 275-70-16 is about the limit, before serious fouling problems. Is anyone here running on this size? I intend keeping the scorpions for normal road use. Any help appreciated. Ta.

I am running 245-70-16 BFG AT KOs on my P38, they end up with a very slightly larger rolling circumference than the originals and have caused absolutely no issues whatsoever.

I have got a mate who has ended up running 265-70-16s BFG AT KOs on his P38 (more by chance than anything else as he needed tires and I had these ones spare) he has not had any problems with this size but they do look big on the car.

We don't use these cars seriously off road, they are used a lot to tow trailers on and off fields and are the best cars in the world for this! So I don't know, for example, whether articulation is hampered by the 265s.

What I would say is there is a notable difference in road performance between the ATs and the scorpions I have got on my 18s. ABS cuts in much more frequently and they do let go on corners sooner. I would not personally put MT tires on for any road use on a P38.

I am intending keeping my 235-70-16 scorpions for the 100km sprint to work and reserve any mud tyres for off-road / laning etc. According to ` the book` theres 14mm diameter diffference between 265 & 275 and there seems more choice of (and cheaper) 275s out there. I do note your comments about possible lackof clearance on full articulation. Thinging of going for remoulds as not wanting to use mud tyres for long hot motorway bashes.

Hi spoke to 4x4 who advised me that General grabbers in 275/70/18's don't ride well on the tarmak and will rub on tight turns. He also mentioned that in the event of air suspension failure the RR will be stuck as tires will be resting in the wheel arches... Anybody had any experience as i think the above mentioned size would look good, filling the wheel arch.

In the end I fitted the 255/60/18 which look disappointing but stick to the RR spec

I put 235/85R16 on my one gives more room under the diff they are insa turbo Sahara there a remould and do fine for off road stuff had her in a soft bog and had no probs not the best on Tarmac but i still have my bfg long trail for the road
