P38 lock problem after being left for 3 months.

Just got back from three months in a warm climate to discover battery flat on my P38 1996 2.5.

The battery was new last summer but I left the car on my drive from the start of Jan until now late March.

Charging the battery I hear the car locking itself and have had to access it using a spare key. Each time I unlock it relocks. Should I remove the battery to recharge?

There is a clicking of the locks I think every 15 seconds.

Any suggestions ?

Yes. Remove the negative battery lead and charge it. Leaving it connected to the car will give you all sorts of problems.

Good advice. Just thought about that and done it.

Will everything be OK when I reconnect?

Maybe you will have to wait and see. Keys will need syncing. EMS security code may need entering, for that you will need diag or a Syncmate. But wait and see. Then come back for advice. Where are you?

Many thanks for the advice. I am in mid Norfolk.

Never used the key fob as the batteries don't work. Always used the manual unlock.

i have a four digit code written in the handbook...would that be the unlock code?

Yes but if you are not using fobs would think that has been disabled in BECM. So one less thing to worry about, but EMS security code is another matter, if BECM has lost that, you will need diag to input it as i said earlier. Bit far from me to help with diag but maybe someone closer. See what you get when battery is charged. Then get back.

Many thanks Wammers for your advice.

Disconnected the battery and charged overnight. Reconnected this morning and she fired up.

Took a while for the suspension to pump up but now back to normal.

Panic over until the next problem comes along.

Well done. Panic over. :);)
