Does anyone know what chance I have of getting my Key repaired / replaced without going to the main dealer? Both Fobs have now died (No RF) and I have tried new batteries and all variations of re-sync, with the exception of the emergency procedure - because I don't have the code for that.
My main dealer, Trinity Motors, tell me that replacement key fobs are anything between 2 > 6 weeks; by which time the battery will probably be flat, thus promotting a whole string of other problems.
Can anyone help?

Thanks for the response.........
No red light on either fob (one died many months ago). Local dealer has verified no RF signal from either key. I assume that dealer will still have the EKA after twelve years? Is it possible to resurect the keys after input of the EKA or has the circuitry gone to cyber heaven?

Almost forgot to ask; if EKA input enables the engine to start and the vehicle to run, how many times could I use this sequence of events to keep using the vehicle? Is there a lock-out after so many times of 'succesful' use?
Incidentally, the support of memebers and the previous posts made on this site by other members has proved to be an invaluble source of information. Many thanks to all.

I'm guessing if there's no RF then that's it, the code is irrelevant. You can only get replacement fobs from LR. Costly so you may as well upgrade the RF receiver in the car while you're at it if its not already done. The upgraded one is better able to tell your key fob from you're neghbours' WiFi and the supermarket door-opener and what not which are prime causes of locking / immobilising problems and eventual battery drain.

Phone/visit a main dealer with details of your VIN and they will give you the EKA from the LR database, usually there & then.
They may be pedantic and say they need to see the V5 and proof of ID, but if you have been dealing with Trinity, I would think they know you.....speak to the Service Dept.

Strange that both FOBS have died, pretty unusual. I suppose that the obvious things have been checked like batteries good and in the right way round, contacts clean and not damaged?

No there is no limit on the number of times you can use the EKA. However, if you make a couple of mistakes, the time allowed before you can try again is about 30 mins.-so get it right 1st or second time.
The keyfobs are non repairable, other than new buttons or battery cover, and non reprogrammable.

Thanks to all above, you have just confirmed what I thought would be the outcome. In hindsight I should have replaced the first key fob when that died. Hey-Ho.
Now let's see how those nice people in the Banking industry are, sort out a second mortgage, find the cheque book and go to the Dealership.

Irishrover,
as a stranger to a stranger: - nice to now that we can get support when we need it. Shame the dealers don't provide such help/support!

By the wat...don't be tempted to buy spare keys off Ebay UNLESS you have the VIN of the car they came off. If you do manage to get a set with the VIN details, the Becm will need reprogramming to accept the new fobs. You will have to swap the keyblades over with your own and have the Becm reprogrammed with the replacement code.

New key ordered - £143.19 Incl. VAT, 2 > 6 weeks delivery! Could have been worse.
EKA given without problem, but still doesn't start vehicle - asks for 'key fob activation' when trying to start vehicle and shows 'alarm error'. Not sure I can continue my 45 mile daily commute on foot and the push bike will be exactly that - a push bike.

Yup. You're looking at about £110 for a new fob but mine arrived in only a few days. Mine is playing swapsie at the moment. Either one fob will work or the other one will. The new one seems to work fine and will control the central locking, but if I sync the spare fob then the new one stops working the central locking. Only one or the other seems to work at any one time. Very odd and a right pain. I followed instructions of locking with the key and pressing lock and then opening and pressing open and it worked, for a while. The only way I can get a fob to work is use it to start the car and then it does.

your problem is you have 2 of the same keys..

You know what; when the wife said sell your 110 (I've had 88's, 109's, 90's & 110's for the last 25+ years) I thought the 'upgrade' would be wonderful - and indeed it was for the first 12 months; now I just want my 110 Truck cab back. As a local Landrover tradesman said to me last week; "If Landrover products were intended to have electronic gadgets they would have fitted them to the Series I."

I have a Boomerang Key fob, if I lose my keys they meet the cost of replacing all of them. Not bad for £10 a year......

Sorted! Sorry to be dim but I didn't have a clue what you were on about when you said "2 of the same keys". I thought of course they are the same key it's for the same vehicle. On my Disco both keys look identical and the P38 is the first car I've had with keys looking different. However I had my Disco in for possessed rear windows today and asked. That's when I realised that there are two DIFFERENT keys. They'd accidentally ordered me two of the "same" key but because I didn't know any different I didn't notice. Apparently they are supposed to be different colours? Doh!:confused2:
