I'm having problems with my keys. Early fob with built in key. Despite replacing the batteries, I constantly get the low key battery warning on the dash. Today one fob stopped working altogether. Do I need new fobs? If so what's the reprogramming procedure - can I do it myself?

I had a similar problem, in the end I bit the bullet and bought a new key from JLR at a cost of £428 OUCH!, that included programming it to the car, I should think so at that price. The spare parts guy was amazed they still had the info to hand being 19 years old at the time.

You can buy the upgraded key off the bay for less than 25 quid, get the blank cut at a proper locksmiths.
Swop over the little transponder into the new key follow powerfull uk guide to programe your new key
Job done.

I would post a pic of mine but the forum is still fecked up on posting pics

I tried one, I got it cut to the profile of the old key, but the parts wouldn't fit, the little transponder thing was too big. The circuit board was really tight.
So, I bought another one from a different supplier, that was even worse. at this point I had spent about £40, with key cutting etc. After I bought the JLR key
I messed about with one of the keys to make the components fit better, a dremel is very good for this. I eventually got the parts to fit, not brilliant , mind you but it does work
I have 2 keys, which you really have to have.
