Hi folks,

I did a search about this and got some information from previous posts - type of fuel, lights, less road salt, generally less mileage for example.

These however seemed to be directed towards Discoveries.

Does any one have any input regarding P38 4.0 SE ?

I may be interested in such a vehicle that is currently being advertised - back in Blighty for 4 years now, current MOT, some S/H, 1998 I think.

Regards

Alexander

With a P38, first thing is to take it on a run and get it hot. Check water levels, remove oil filler cap and inspect, drive air suspension up & down height ranges, check ALL electrical functions and look for book symbol in HEVAC. Check aircon operation. Ensure at least two keys come with the vehicle. Check for undue noise from transmission and smooth gear changes. Temperature should be no more than midway (Ish). Check underneath for oil leaks. That's a few items to look out for...no doubt others will add to it.

I have a 4.6 Jap import, had it 3 years or more now and would highly recommend getting one
As long as all the paperwork is in place, which it will be after being here for 4 years , you will be fine
I couldn't believe how clean and rust free mine was underneath, and still has no rust at all on it
Only issue (and it doesn't bother me at all ) is the trip computer is still in km and so the fuel computer calculates litres/100km instead of mpg - as I said doesn't bother me and I think you can get it reset to mpg if you want - oh, and you need to remember to get the garage to put the mileage figure in km on the MOT - mine has done 120,000km which is only about 70,000 miles
You will need to mention it to your insurance company to be on the safe side, but since it will have a UK chassis no. and was built here there will be no premium increase

For info Kenny, You can change the speedo to MPH with the diagnostics provided you have an imperial speedo. If you buy second hand make sure it has less miles on it than your motor has done as the BECM will always default to the HIGHER value stored in either the speedo or itself

Hi John - how's it going ?
The speedo has been changed to read in mph - this is simply sticking an mph biased sticker over the kph biased one
As far as I know you can only buy these genuine stickers from a main stealer, but even they can't charge much for a sticker !
Cos the speedo now reads in mph I aint bothered about the rest being in kph :)

Hiya Kenny... over the UK until Thursday, trying my best to dodge the Yam Yams (Oil Dripper and the like), never know, I might bump into a couple of them in Craddocks tomorrow in Cannock,:behindsofa: but I'm undercover and not in the Rangie!!
The sticker is just the job, just don't get carried away with the odometer reading!!
Did you manage to get the caravan wiring sorted???

Sorry for diverting away from the thread guys........carry on!!:focus:

Your wiring diagram worked a treat John - even if you did scribble it on the back of a fag packet ! :D

I did send you a PM thanking you at the time - did you not get it ?
Don't want you thinking I was ungrateful :)

Enjoy yer wee trip tae Englandshire

Yes did get it Kenny..thanks. Glad you got sorted.
Enjoyed the virtual bottle of Glenfarclas (Suppose I've spelt it wrong!!):beer2:
I've been looking on Google Earth...Is that your caravan on the summit of Ben Nevis????:hysterically_laughi

Thanks for the response so far.

How much would LR charge to supply an EKA code and another key/remote fob ?

Thanks
Alexander

If you can prove ownership they should be able to give you the EKA code over the c ounter at any LR dealership FOC, they only have to look up the VIN on the computer system.

The keys on the other hand cost a fortune. LR only supply as they have to be coded to the specific car and BEcM. These can typically cost £150 each!!!!

just had to get my eka code from the dealer as i lost it  and asked for a price on a key as mine is looking pretty battered now and need another spare, they quoted £142!! But gotta get it i suppose!
