Hi All

I have noticed my P38 DSE has developed a pretty major fuel leak on the injector pump (the bit where all the fuel lines come out of heading for the injectors).

I hear this could be a massive job to replace the seal, has anyone done it? Is it an awful job? Or could it be done relatively easily?

Any info on this would be great,

Thanks

Yes can be done, but you have to know what you are doing or could end up in a world of pain. Think there is a video on Youtube of it being done on a VW (same pump). Find it and watch it. Pump needs to be fully on cam or you will lose the thrust washer and pump will have to be stripped to replace it.

simple enuf job iv get a step by step how to guide if you want todo it you dont even need to remove the pump.

yep a how to guide on youtube by a fella called runnabear or something

Ok, I'm up for having a go if you could supply a rough 'how to guide' biketeacherdave.

Cheers

Look at the video, you don't need to remove top of pump but you will have to use a probe in end of piston to determine pump is on full cam. If you don't know what you are doing don't attempt it. It is a pain to replace thrust washer. You won't know anything is wrong if it drops until car won't run.

I have done it. Watch the youtube video doing it on a VW Passat. Watch it as many times as possible, so that you will remember each step to the last letter.
There is only one extra thing. You got to remove the timing solonoid from the injection pump as there is not enough space to get the o-ring in RR setup. Also, use high quality (T25/T30 /5mm allan) tools and DO NOT rush.
Marking the pump's top/middle cover position is important as well.

good luck.

If your head o-ring leaks then top seals can't be far behind.
Guess, it'll be easy doing all three seals in one go.

As soon as I get home to the laptop I'll send you my step by step guide do all 3 seals once the injector head seal is done the internal fuel pressure goes up causing the others to leak. Iv sent this out to a fair few all have managed it ok

Thanks for all the help, i'll have a look at the video and instructions and see if I dare do it. If I think its too much, is it worth looking at buying a reconditioned one do you think?

Thanks all, I haven't had he time and confidence to do it yet, but may have a look this weekend. Although I am also thinking of maybe parting with the old girl and letting some one else have all the fun!!

Its a shame your not closer to Heathrow, a guy did mine for £80, and its working better than ever, but your some way off from here

Diesel Jones are down Nuttall Street. If you wander down one of the lads might do it after work for a little renumeration.

Great thanks for that I will give them a call in the am, I have also got Steve Parker LR and Beaumonts LR near me so should probably give them a call and get an idea of cost.

Thanks again
