Hi Folks
I have a 1997 P38 and it has become immobilised by itself. My next door has a Rover 75, with the same problem, the other neighbour has a similar problem, but he can start his Lexus with the key - so it seems remotes are being inetrfered with.

My problem though is whatever I do I cannot start mine - message is engine imobilised. I have played with the code numnbers I found on a card in the documents, but even that sequence does not seem to do much.

Any bright ideas how I can get back on the road please???

Many thanks
Mike

Hi, try doing a search for EKA, Emergency Key Access. Lots of threads.
As a quick guide, make sure you have the correct code(never overlook the obvious). This is only available from dealer on production of log-book or proof of ownership etc. Follow input instructions as in drivers handbook exactly. The switch inside the door can corrode, so check that indicators illuminate as you input the code. Check all doors bonnet windows are closed when inputing code.
If in doubt follow the instructions! Good luck.

Hi Folks,
Many thanks for quick response! I am based in Southampton and dont know anyone round here - yet...

I am really lost to know what to do - should I call the breakdown folk as it sounds like I need a code reset or something? Is this something a mobile person can do by the way? I cannot afford a couple of grand for diagnostic kit unfortunately!

So let me get this right, its something in the bowels of the car's many computers that is causing the problem?

Cheers
Mike

Hi, I also have a card with the EKA code in it - but once I have started doing it - the indicator light does not come on - could this mean I need a jump start or something?
Thanks
Mike

by the way - whitch switch inside which door is prone to corrosion please?
Thanks
Mike

PS Have just repaeated everything with a battery booster on it - no difference - do the Green flag have the kit to sort this does anyone know please?

from alot of peoples experiences on here i think that any breakdown service dont really have the proper knowledge or tools to help out on p38's electronics. I would first make sure you def have the right eka code. When it comes up with engine disabled does it then say "press remote or access code" you might have interference problems but im gonna guess at needing a resync, the dont cost alot about £100 at the most i think. you coould have a look on Blackbox Solutions Ltd - Designers and manufacturers of the best vehicle diagnostic tools..

Im sure someone with alot more knowledge about this will be along soon to help you out.

As I mentioned, I have a card with a code and instructions on it - can only assume its the right one :)
Did the green flkag man try anything - or was he as useless as the last one I had - would not look at anythiong and stuck me on a trailer - for 200 miles - becasue I think they get more money for that!

cheers

without trying to sound rude, theres an expression about assumption being the mother of all...................!!!!!:)

i would take a trip down to your nearest dealer, you only need your log book and some ID and they will pull it up on their computer for you. Then you know its right or not and can eliminate it and work from there, plus it free!!!:):):)

Hi Tommo
Mant thanks for the wisdom! I actually have two probs - something locally has stuffed at least 4 cars - mine (P38 1997) 2002 Rover, 2005 mini and an x reg Lexus.

I just have this horrible fear I will spend all the money getting it going, get home and it will be immediatly buggered again!

AAAAARGH!
cheers
Mike

Dear Tommo
Many thanks - one thing I was taught many years ago in the RAF was - Dont assume - Check!!!!
Is there a central place open on a sunday by any chance???

Wondered if there was anyone on line who had the reset kit and ability to disable immobiliser?
Long hope, big ask - nothing nice has ever happened to me down here ....(tears and groans) - I wonder why I live in Southampton now ???

Myself and Rick The Pick have the ability and special software to reset your Becm and disable the Immobiliser, Alarm etc. etc.
Rick is based in the Brighton area and I am in Ireland. You would need to remove the Becm and get it shipped to either Rick or myself and it would be a same day turnaround from when it is received to being sent back to you.
Rick may be able to do it "Onsite" but obviously you would have to pay travelling costs.

Dear Irish Rover
Thats great information, thanks. Just before I read this mail, I thought what a good idea it would be to have some sort of unofficial network of folk who might have the jit and be prepared to help folk out (for some cash of course!).
Then my Mother in law was going,so I had to leave computer, while downstairs I was talking to neighbour (also afflicted) and during discussion, I mentioned tha twireless things could cause probs - I have a wireless bell push, so took it off and placed it out back, asked neighbour to try his key - sod me it worked! So I stuck mine in, did the quick reset (stuff key in etc) then mine also worked!

So moral of story has to be - always check your own front yard! The problem might just be there under your nose!!

ANyway, many many thanks for the help and advice - on a sunday too!!!
What a great bunch you all are!!

Thanks
Mike
