Even Cat S needs to be repaired professionally. It will be interesting to see if you can get insurance for it, if you do it yourself.

I shall remove and replace all the damaged bolt on parts.
I've already changed the aircon condensor and dryer earlier this year.
Maybe remove the front panel by drilling out the spot welds.
Will entrust the welding of the front panel and inner wing to my local bodyshop who specialises in insurance repair work for a lot of car dealerships as well as private owners.
He restored my 30 year old granada when it failed mot on inner and outer sills and rear chassis legs and he also did full sills on my 528se .
I don't think it will need any kind of special inspection before another MOT. The car still runs and drives as it is, panelwork just needs replacing, should have been Cat N but at least i got it down to S from B.

Arrr go on... :)

The use of second hand parts as an option is required by law in France.
Last time I dealt with insurance ('08/09), they'd only allow second hand body parts if they weren't also being made by non-factory manufacturers. The car at the time was limited to just the boot lid second hand. Everything else had to be new because it wasn't possible to prove it was a factory part when second hand.

Was a weird policy which led to a lot of cars getting binned that came through our garage.

Glad to see that a bit of persistence has got the insurance company to back away from its first ideas. Once done I would hope they would then reinsure the vehicle as, after all, they sanctioned the repairs!

vosa stopped doing their checks a few years ago, they were only after ringers gave up when they didn't get any
Letter states from Total Loss who had their engineer inspect it and give it Cat S - £4500 value - £1100 to retain salvage - £3100 paid out after deducting excess.
Insurance and mot stay in force. 8 weeks to repair it and re-mot otherwise insurance expires.
Currently it is taxed, mot'd and insured until October

All structural panels bought are genuine i.e front panel ALR 1196, LH front valance ALR9465, LH side member ALR8391, LH valance reinforcer ALR4945, BAFFLE PLATE BRACKET ESR3433, LH Front Bumper Bracket - ANR4115, LH front bumper slider bracket ANR2500. New LH indicator, new radius arm bushes and nuts and bolts (both ends of arm) . I put a new drag link on it before Copart collected it and have ordered a new track rod.
Secondhand parts are:-
A pair of radius arms less bushes as seller would not sell just the one, headlight complete with wiper motor, wiper and lower trim, radius arms (new bushes to fit), 602 bonnet, plain bumper, n/s foglight and was a wing (the woman in Poulton le Fylde wasn't there when Parcelforce tried to collect and then she couldn't be arsed to allow me to re-arrange collection). So i still need a good 2nd hand LH wing in 602. I can get a brand new OE unpainted one abroad for 95 euros. Also one in Egypt for £135. But then i have to get it painted. trying to keep painting cost down to just front panel and inner valance.

Good for you sounds like you are on the way to getting it sorted.
I do know how you feel. We had a similar battle here in France a coupla years ago but luckily a local LR bloke had an identical vehicle in his "spares" stock and was able to simply take two doors off, an axle and a radius arm. The insurance co jibbed a bit but when I pointed out the cost not only of repatriating the vehicle plus our enormous box trailer, and the cost of a replacement 4x4 for the three months before we were due to go back, they relented.
Still had to fight for every penny though.

Have you had the painting job costed up?
Once set up to do the other bits, you may find that just adding one more bit may not actually add up to too much. At least you can get a quote off them. Does no LR breaker have one in stock? Daft question really as I am sure you have already gone down that road.
Anyway, best of luck with getting all this finished.:):):)

Thanks for the encouragement. Bumper is off now and new one ready to fit once panels have been removed and new ones fitted. ARB links fitted. Bonnet in 602 blue arrives tomorrow. Britpart let me down with the inner wing and reinforcer - no longer available but got a reinforcer from Belgium and a wing in 602 from clearmyshed in Aberystwyth. Got the radius arm off last night with the help of a cutting disc on my angle grinder. Brand spanking new large diameter aircon pipe from compressor to bulkhead evaporator arrived yesterday at the bargain price of £25 - stock clearance i guess.

Good to hear how far you are getting on with it.
You really are doing your homework with parts suppliers!
Hope you get it finished soo to your satisfaction.
All the best
Stan

You say the MOT is still in force, but I highly doubt that would stand up as it isn’t currently roadworthy?
well once the front bumper, radius arm and bonnet and wing are fitted I'm hoping i can cobble the headlamp and indicator together to make it sufficiently road legal to drive it to the body shop

Mot's as a marker of roadworthiness only stand the minute they are issued. We all know of people changing tyres just for the MOT then removing them. If you can get the lights back on in some shape or form you will be as road legal as anyone else. If the law stop you and say "Your headlight isn't quite straight" you can tell them you know that, you've had an accident and are taking it to the bodyshop to get it straightened out. I very much doubt they'd do you for that, same as if you are going for an MOT and driving with no tax. Provided it is booked in it should be just as legal.
If all other parts of the bodywork are straight I doubt you'd be "cobbling" stuff together, they should fit fine.
(Don't understand all the gainsayers on this thread.)
