I,ve just bought a third P38 ,a M reg 4.0 auto with the engine replaced with a Daihatsu 2.8 turbo diesel using a Milner conversion plate. The truck runs pretty well ,but the dash is clogged up with gearbox error messages, "Select Neutral" , Slow 35 mph max" ,etc. My question is how can I get rid of all these messages ?, she runs and drives pretty well ,except that the gearbox only changes up three gears automatically and you have to press the mode button to get it into fourth, any ideas ?.

The 35mph message is usually related to the air suspension.

Having said that a low battery voltage or bad earth can cause all of those messages. Not sure about the 4th gear problem though.

You might have to get the faults read if they persist.

KOOKY GUY speak truth.
Get a nice man to read and clear the faults. Then work on the ones that either don't clear or re-appear. Without knowing how well, or completely, the spring conversion has been done you could have an electronic issue from that.
But meanwhile check earths and battery. According to some other people on here it might be worth replacing the battery even if it passes a basic test.

I think this is the first RR that I hear about that had it's engine swapped out for another totally different one. And to top it off, petrol going to diesel ?
Can you elaborate a little on what was done to the ECU to get it to play with the BECM? Did they just strip out the ECU and it still runs ?

About the Max Speed 35mph, that's probably the error from the EAS. There's a kit with an electric loom that you connect to bypass that.

I bought this P38 at a knock down price, it needed a few jobs doing, but as far as I am aware the engine ECU has been removed completely. The Daihatsu engine is basically a manual engine with very little in the way of electronics. I have never seen a P38 converted like this before, have seen and owned classics with engine transplants but never with an auto-box.

I'm amazed it works at all then.

The P38 autobox requires communication from the engine ECU to tell it what gear to use. I had terrible trouble with mine when it lost this communication.
