Nothing, heated screens are notorious failure items and not just on P38's. Bits of mine work LOL. I also had the same problem on Fords, the only answer was a new screen and since I don't like the wires in the screen interfering with my vision, I always have a non heated replacement screen fitted if it got busted

Mine doesn't work either - so you think it's one or more of the filaments in the screen itself that's gone then?
I thought it was divided into two seperate circuits. Is it likely that they've both gone at the same time? Nothing heated seems to work in mine (except the rear window) - I'm still hoping there's a common central problem somewhere causing it all....

On mine the screen is heated in 2 halves, naturally it's the drivers side that has the most failed elements. They often seem to fail at the point of connection which knocks the lot out, or, as in my case, parts of the elements fail leaving patches of screen that are heated:doh:

A few years back, I had a screen changed because of a chip, which renders the heated screens useless - it took Autoglass 5, yes 5, visits and 5 windscreens later, before one was fitted which worked on both sides. In the end, a specialist fitter was sent - he checked the power supply from the car which they like to blame, (takes a "specialist" to do this of course) and it was 100% - so 4 of the 5 screens they tried to fit were faulty.......
Apparently there are loads of faulty heated screens from the factory - they are Pilkington glass screens, not OE.

So to solve mine, I just need a brick, a multimeter and a telephone! Cool. What about my mirrors and seats though? Can I fix those as easily?

I had a look at that but it looked quite hard.
Is it just a case of removing the seat covers (the scary bit) and replacing the heater mesh thing? Seems odd that both seats have gone though. The backs don't work either and I thought they were seperate circuits?
Where does one get the replacement heater jobbies from? A main dealer?

Heated seats are notoriously failworthy. They flex so much the microscopic wires fracture - add heat and they go even more brittle. Changeable but expensive. Heated mirrors should come on automatically when you start up, but again, its common for them not to. You could have the car plugged in to a test deck to see if the HEVAC unit works properly but it probably is the delicate wiring.

According to my info the heated mirrors come on with the programmed defrost button, heated rear window etc.
At least mine work like that

My bleedin Vectra that I got rid of to fund the Rangey had no such problems with it's heated seats! And the leather seemed to last better too!
What's a test deck? You mean something like a testbook or Rovercom? I do wonder about the Hevac as it seems to have a bit of a mind of it's own at the moment, with the fans going faster or slower whenever it feels like it (on manual and auto), the aircon clutch pops in and out whenever it feels like it, the book symbol has started appearing and disappearing too now.
Should the heated mirrors have a heater symbol engraved on the glass like my Vectra did? I'm half wondering if the Mr bodgit that had it before me replaced them with non heated mirrors to save a few pence.

One of the two, yes. The more you say is wrong the more I would suspect the HEVAC. As far as I am aware all RR P38 mirrors are heated. It's easy to check, fully adjust it out and pop it off its mount and have a look behind it. There will be a pair of terminals bonded to the back. RR don't have the Vectra style engraving.
