At last, due entirely to lateral thinking from a Poole L-R man, I have a DSE that does what it did new, if not better. I had prepared it for a trip to Africa by replacing everything that might go wrong, from both fuel pumps to all bushes and suspension components. After a good test/thrash across Ireland that showed up no faults, two days later it simply would`nt start. All the experts in the world were consulted and came to the conclusion that the new Bosch pump was at fault. Back it went to the installer. Being fairly dissolutioned I gave up on the trip and bought another car(fool), leaving the P38 to others. After a lot, I suspect, of bad language the specialist called me to come look before he fixed the problem. Lo and behold, all my odd problems( like most posters) had come down to the most logical answer, lift the front fuse box and look at all the crud and corrosion under it, power was shorting all over the place, fit new one and it now does all it did when new, and then some. In all the help posts I have read, nothing was mentioned about the fuse box as an answer to possible problems(?), so, look for the logical answer to odd power/circuit problems, one man did and saved my P38!

Yeah, you're right, fuse boxes never get a mention on here.

never

never

well, hardly ever

(keep backing up, we'll be out of here before he notices - then we can call the men in white coats)

In case ANY of the new posters check old posts out, DSE starting problems come back to same thing, electrics or BECM not talking to fuel pump. I still have a cutting out/stutter problem which I can cure temporarily with hairspray on the harness but as soon as it cracks back comes the odd stall. I`ll find the dodgy connecter, one day! Seriously 90% of all P38 problems come back to electrical connections below the fuse box, the rest from wet wellies and the fuse box below the seat, Boots cheapest hairspray is good for insulating wiring but only for a while.

try ignition sealer if you believe it really is an insulation issue

Anyone know if you can get the fusebox loom on its own or do you have to replace the entire engine compartment harness? Just the loom though, I've a new spare fusebox already.
