Well my middle silencer has decided to start blowing so I'm going to have to seriously consider doing something about the exhaust very soon. I assume the rear boxes aren't far off and the previous owner knocked the contents of the cats out before I got it so they need sorting too (or decatting since I'm on lpg).

There has been some discussion about what's best previously, but I'm not sure any real conclusions were reached...

Should I just got for a generic replacement or take the opportunity to go for something a bit more interesting? I don't want anything too loud (made that mistake on a previous Vectra) but it would be nice to have something that brings out the V8 burble a bit more (it's lost in the clatter from the empty cats currently). Obviously, being a P38 owner, I'm broke so price is important too!

Suggestions/recommendations anyone?

Also, does something like a Janspeed count as a modification (and therefore higher insurance)?

just get a standard box and replace the cats with some straight pipe. De catting alone will give a slight yet distinct increase in "burbling".

i have a q,sorry off topic.how would de cat affect lambda sensors in any way?and wht abt air fuel mix between having cats and not having cats?and if there is black or blue smoke coming from exhaust, how can they come from exhaust with an existant cat?i mean if a p38 is burning oil,or blowing by,will it show even with cats on?

google "cybox" m8, they are on e bay and deal direct as well. top stainless exhausts, i got one for my slitty a few weeks ago, top quality bit of kit and a good price:D

:)I took my P38 for MOT last week and it failed because the centre box had hole's in it which were sucking in air and throughing out the lambda level on the emissions test (CO2 & HC levels were perfect), so I ordered a new box but the wally in the dealers ordered the wrong part which was rather annoying as I had rebooked the test for the next day, my solution to this was to cut the pipe's either side of the box and weld a strait pipe in its place. Lo and behold it passed with flying colours, now running with two cats and two back box's with a very nice throaty sound on low revs, real V8 growl on kick-down and a clean quiet note at speed.:D:confused: Or instead you could weld in a cherry bomb from these guys ccr-ltd items - Get great deals on Vehicle Parts Accessories items on eBay UK! they also sell cats and sections of pipe as-well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I can't believe the price of decat pipes! They seem to be the same price as cats. How can that be?

Shame I can't weld or I'd be tempted to make something myself and just patch up the centre box. Hmm.

I know a guy who is good at welding. Done both my straight pipes on the V6 quattro and the 20v s6. very pleased with the work. sounds awsome.
