Hi all,

I posted about possible pinking a while back, 4.6 HSE Petrol

To it to a range rover specialist they checked and suggested exhaust manifold gasket,

Its like a metal tick / pink only when under acceleration, cruising i dont seem to here it,,
Noise goes when i remove No 6 plug lead,,

So i have struggeled on and got the manifold off, the gasket look fine, been back to get new gaskets and they still think its that or the manifold cracked etc,,,

I cant see any thing wrong with the manifold antone one with experience with this problem they think these manifold and gaskets are common,,

any help would be appreciated, or a spare R/H Manifold would be nice

My r.h. manifold had a hairline crack in the weld at one of the branches and used to blow when hot. Only found the crack after I removed the manifold, took it to work and got it X-rayed (Perk of the job!!).

Removing the seized bolts holding the heatshields together is a right pain and the shields have to be removed to get at the manifold bolts. Be sure the gaskets are put on the right way round or you will have problems as the ports will be partially blocked...have a look on Rave.

i got the two hard to get to bolts missing at the moment, lost the feckers while getting em in and been looking for a new set or two replacements just to tide me over till i can get hold of a set.

Strange thing gravity, supposed to be a dead vertical force but never works that way when you drop a bolt especially, it always finishes up 10feet away from where you think it should be or they are taken by aliens, never to be seen again and then turn up after you have gone to the trouble of buying a new one!

Right Gav., I'm fed and have had my glasses of tonic.

Exhaust manifold bolt to Cylinder head ERR4961 @ £2.88 each (Incl. VAT) (Washered Head)
OR.... you could use an M8 X 35 long High tensile bolt with a thick M8 washer (The way it used to be before they got clever)

Update,

So i have struggeled on and replaces the Exhaust gaskets, checked the manifold, couldnt find anything wrong,

but sourced a s/h one from good engine,
rebuilt it all last night, and still ticks / pinks on No6 cylinder,
This is only on acceleration from 2000 - 3000 rpm

Any ideas someone,,,

could it be hydraulic lifters, when i replaced the h/g first time round i managed to get rid of a tappety noise by squeezing the lifters prior to refitting!!!

i would imagine it would still be there tho with plug lead off if it were that simple!!!

possible valve problem??
