my usuually faultless and reliable 99,4.0 p38, has the engine warning light come on, this appears to have happened just after i ran it really low on fuel trying to get home to catch my tea before the dog did, it isnt overheating the fluid levels are fine, but now it seems to struggle and hunt at low revs, occasionay bogging down, my mechanics freinds thoughts were 5hit in the filter, but that seemed a little extreme and it might upset my neighbours, any suggestions
or does anyone reccomend a specialist in staffs to plug in a diagnostic machine for a proper answer

cheers

sounds like fuel filter to me. i would get a new filter on there, even drain the tank if theres not a tank full.

dunno if theres an intank filter or mesh. i would assume there is. never took the fuel pump out of the tank tho so not sure how to go about it!

As water and ****e will lie at the bottom of the tank and depending how much juice is in it, you could disconnect the fuel line at the pressure regulator or disconnect the fuel line from the tank to the filter and run the fuel pump to empty the tank into a container.
Obviously, to completely clean the tank out is no small task.

my older p38 has a "normal filter"
