New member. He may not have come across the burgeoning Technical section yet. Mind you, scroll too fast and you miss it. Maybe put a subfolder in it and call it "Unvalidated - READ AT YOUR OWN RISK".

What do you consider to be, Unvalidated?

Anything i have put in is correct can't speak for the others. Who do you suggest is qualified to vet them?

2 ways that I can see. Moderators / respected members such as yourself or some sort of voting system we all subscribe to. Have a look at the OmegaOwners forum and their technical section with index. That would be great.

I don't know if we have a moderator qualified to do that. One mans "How to" is another mans bodge. So members, just as on the forum will have to learn who to listen to and who to ignore. Going through that lot in all areas is a bloody full time nightmare job.

There is a section for voting on How To's in the secure unit but I stopped putting threads in there after repeated pleas to vet them fell on deaf ears.

We now rely mostly on a loose system of recommendation by trusted members.

It's a little ad hoc but sort of works

Never knew about it or where it was. But I assume secure means only accessible to a few?

The Secure Unit is accessible to members who donate or have 10,000 posts. It means it's a pretty random selection but was set up to for people who have shown an investment of a sort in LZ to give their opinion on the running of the forum.

Very few choose to engage.

Yeah but there are people on here with 10,000 posts that wouldn't know a gudgeon pin (Wrist pin for our US members) from a safety pin. :D:D:D

But they're only 1 vote, not 10,000.

Cyclical argument that has been covered many times before but it does seem a waste.
So if the majority vote to accept a cockup it becomes an "How to". Have you seen how the "Likes" system is progressing?

Considering nobody bothers to vote it's a bit of a moot point. It's a little obvious that if there was disagreement from members with respected knowledge then poll results would be irrelevant but it was an attempt to engage respected members in the process of choosing How To's.

Most chose not to bother.

It's not a problem, what we have works after a fashion. It could be better but it would need more member involvement.

Some threads I'm happy to move into the tech archives because I trust the knowledge of the OP. Some are cleaned up and moved after general appreciation and agreement from a broad Base of members on the thread.

Some I ask the opinion of people I consider qualified.

As you point out, apart from a C&Gs colouring inside the lines...I'm not.

That doesn't mean I'm stupid though.

Don't think anyone thinks you are stupid, but the How to sections on all areas would take a lot of covering. I appreciate it can be a mud hole. But even if a panel of suitable knowledge was instigated to decide the merits of how to's. It would take an age to vet them all on every section. What we have seems to work in it's own quaint little way.
