Guys,
after a couple of days of intermitent complaints from the computer, a week ago my P38 dropped to it's stops and hasn't wanted to move since. I get the 35 mph warning and everything.
I got hold of the EASunlock software and bought a custom lead for it from one of the ebay vendors.
I've had problems getting the software to sync to the EAS ECU. It generates a good TX stream but what i get back in the RX buffer is odd.
I tried it lots of times and here are the RX buffer values from 4 of them ...
1: 0 0 31 e3 5 65
2: 0 0 0 31 e3 1 31 e3 5 31 e3 5 31 e3 5 31 0
3: 0 0 65 f3 5 31 e3 5 0
4: 0 0 31 e3 85 65 e3 5 65 f3 5 31 e3 5 31 e3 1 ff

Does anyone have any ideas ? ... I'm running it on vista with a USB to Serial converter cable, both of which people have told me could be a problem. I design computer software for a living so i'm pretty ok with the setup .. but I'm not auto electrician !

i doubt its the software as its fine on my vista lappy, you have only got the serial plugged in?

have you used original drivers or windows?

check com ports match in software and dev man

does the car say slow 35mph when you turn ign on and cable is on, connected to computer?

lets av a look at a screen shot

I'm using the usb-serial driver that the manufacturer has on their website, so i guess that makes it the original one ?
I've set the comm port to 1 in vista comp-manager and confirmed that in the software by selecting it from the dropdown.
The 35mph message comes on when i turn on the ignition both when the cable/software are active and when it's all unplugged .. also when it's all plugged in and i activate/deactivate the software.

Each time i try initalising the connection i get different sequences of codes returned, always preceeded by PP. Are these just noise and meaningless ?

Is that any help ?
(i don't know if a screen print will help.. you don't get to see much)

There is always a stream of of characters when it is communicating, if it is synched you should have a box on the EAS screen that turns from red to green, it's under the stop & Initialize buttons. I can't remember the exact message on the button. If the button goes green, just click the Read Faults button, you will get a string of faults first time, then click the Reset EAS button and Read faults again. It should tell you what caused the EAS fault. In my case yesterday it was the front offside height sensor, water in thconnector had given a reading out of range to the EAS ECU.

For the sync try 375 375 and 75 for the idle delay. The sequence is plug in the cable, turn on the laptop, open the software, turn on the ignition to position 2 start the software. The "STATUS =" button should turn from red to green if all is OK. If you change any settings you need to reinitialise the software and soemtimes turn off the ignition and then on again before it will sync.

I had trouble with vista... Just borrow a XP laptop and all should be well.

Vista does all sorts of daft things.

I just bought the EAS unlock cable and serial to USB adapter cable, from a vendor on ebay incl software, but cant get i to work.
I have installed the USB driver on a Windows 10 PC. Identified the Com port and set it up at the EAS software, switched the ignition to second indention, (HVAC on) but I do only get a single PP back in the Rx window. I get that regardless of it is connected, or not.
Tried several computers, the relay under the left hand seat are in place.

Anybody have an idea of what could be wrong?

The car is a P38, 1998, 4.6 HSE

Thanks

:)

Check your obd2 socket for corrosion, both front and rear.

Chinese usb-serial cables generally don’t work well for EAS-unlock. Find a FTDI chip based adapter, and use driver from FTDI website. Also uninstall windows driver first before installing correct one.

I got the problem solved. The problem was that they shipped the wrong type of cable. I have now made up a new cable and EAS faults cleared. :)

Thanks for the feedback

:)
