Hi all,

Just a quick query regarding the DMF on P38's. Mine is a 1995 M reg, 2.5 D manual; I'm led to believe that it does have a DMF fitted. Would I be correct in assuming that?

Also, did all the diesel/manual P38's come fitted with a DMF as standard? I'm getting a clutch fitted and the garage don't think mine has a DMF (haven't taken the car there yet).

As an aside question, does anyone know of any LR garage's (not main dealer) in or around the York area that knows what they are looking at when it comes to P38's? Last few times I've taken it for some work it's always come back with something wrong with, nothing major but still a bit annoying

Thanks,

Gary

Yes they do. DMFs are an invention of the devil designed to reduce load on the transmission at low RPM in high gears in slow moving traffic. And supposedly reduce exhaust emissions. In my view a waste of time and money for the motorist. But make a fair amount of profit for parts suppliers. They fail quit often.

Thanks guys, thought so. I'm no expert but having owned one for nearly 6 years, you tend to find out a bit about them.

Last thing I want is to replace the clutch and have to have it done again for DMF (and yes - I'll make sure they do the clutch fork roll pins too)......

Cheers

Yes they do have a dmf.
When my pal had my current rangie it was rattling its nut in.
Probably why it whines in 1st gear now.
Dmf. clutch. Thrustbearing. Fork pins. And spigot bearing it should be carefree clutch wise

Well, been quoted £560 for clutch & labour inc vat. Apparently he phoned up LR to ask them if mine had a DMF. LR said they didn't know - unbelievable (more like they couldn't be bothered to check).

So he says cheapest he can get a DMF for is £720 (motor factors) and it won't be anymore labour, which was a relief. If I can get it cheaper he says he'll fit the one I supply. Still looking at a grand here though!!

Mine feels fine at the minute but I just know if I only get the clutch done, the DMF will go soon after (I'm gonna check the history though tonight!).

The joys.

It took me aday to get it all out and a day to reassemble although a lot of time was spent fighting the starter motor. so not bad. See what Island charge for Valeo clutch. Don't fita cheap one as it cannot take the torque.
