Thanks. Its a 97 so I know I should have part No. AMR6477G just wondered if 99 part No. YQE103420G and 00 part No. YQE000010G are backwards compatible. Fortunately AMR6477G is more common place and seems to be cheaper where the seller recognises a difference.

Different circuit configurations and fuse applications in later boxes. Get the same one you have now. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-AMR6477 AMR6477 was fitted to cars with VIN number WA376580 to WA410481. I believe that to be MY 1998. VA346794 to VA376579 should be MY 1997 and used AMR6406, but AMR6477 is compatible.

Before replacing things, check the BeCM because I had a real head scratcher of a window problem which was exceedingly similar to this!

It turned out my BeCM had got a tiny bit of damp and ONE pin got a slight build up of corrosion.

I cleaned it and the window is still working.

However, It was extremely difficult to spot and had flumoxed some on here too.

Unplug the ABS plug from the BeCM and use a magnifying glass & powerful LED torch to check the male & female connections. After all, it "may" be a contributing factor.

A rear window has jammed up in my car and I am fairly certain it's that's self same lug, just a different pin ;)

AMR6477 is the last compatible fuse box for earlier Diesel models (pre '99/ VIN WA410481)

The parts catalog I use shows fuse boxes as follows (for Diesel models):
To VA346793: AMR3376 - Superceded By: AMR6406 - Superceded by: AMR6477
From VA346794 To VA376579: AMR6406 - Superceded by: AMR6477
From WA376580 To WA410481: AMR6477
From XA410482: YQE103420
From YA438098: YQE000010

So either of the first 3 part numbers are compatible with your vehicle (though why would you want to fit an older second hand unit!) as AMR6477 supercedes both of the earlier part numbers. The later fuse boxes definitely won't work, and looking on the parts catalog again, even YQE103420 wasn't superceded by YQE000010 - so they are also incompatible between the later models.

Could do with being able to mark this for later reference!

Update:

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions.

To summarise my problems were as follows

EAS,ABS,SRS,TC, Airbag messages came up on the dash but then not be there when restarting.
Sometimes the messages were accompanied by alternator fault. Sometimes the messages would be accompanied by the speedo not working. If the faults came up while driving they usually cleared within a mile. Everything was operating correctly and this intermittent behaviour lasted about 2-3 weeks.
Finally the fault went hard, the ABS pump stopped working, diagnostics either showed no faults or couldn't communicate with the ECU. And finally, after the fault had gone hard, the engine wouldn't start without a great deal of effort.

I sourced a reasonably priced second hand fuse box and despite the vehicle standing for a couple of weeks the old girl fired straight up, no faults dispalyed, everything working as it should.

Unfortunately it is an older fuse box than the one it replaces so I don't know if this is going to cause trouble a little further down the line. Its the first time in over 40 years I've ever come across a fuse box failing, and I've had some old nails in that time. I'll be taking the faulty one apart in due course to see if its repairable.

Hopefully that is the end of this particular fault and I have many miles ahead before the next problem.:)

There're a few threads on the fusebox and where they fail.

The correct method for checking if a used fusebox is compatible is to turn the fuse box upside down.
Match the pins underneath like for like. We've been matching them like this for years. Older versions, newer versions, make them by the pins like for like.
