i am that fed up with my dse giving engine troubles,i am thinking about ripping out the bmw motor and fitting a v8 petrol engine how much work is involved in doing this ??????

sounds a bit like the bmw lump, 2 heads and 3 radiators !!!

2 heads/3 rads - you've got different problems. What parts have you been using to replace with?
I had my DSE done 47,000 miles ago. The specialist doing it refused to do the work unless i used new head, genuine OEM waterpump and radiator. He said he'd done a few with spurious pumps and rads in the past and every one had come back.
he said you have to replace the lot to be sure of success, and no ****parts in the coolant system. Wasn't overly fussy about the head once it was new but absolutely categoric that the full cooling sytem was replaced and that nothing but BMW went into cooling system.

47,000 miles of hard going, including heavy towing, later and he's proven he knew what he was talking about.

1st head was a recon head ,orginal rad cracked, bought new genuine rad 14 months later engine got hot cracked head, had rad checked found baffle plate came loose in top of rad, bought new head and fitted, new water pump, thermostat, and now fitted v8 rad, fingers crossed now.

I think you might be onto something going with the V8 rad. That baffle plate is one of the most ludicrous engineering decisions I've ever seen. Several guys in here have had the baffle fail and hence blown their engines.
Its downright negligent of LR to design it like that.
