hi i have a range rover 1998 dse. which you can be driving along all is fine but as you lift of the gas pedal the motor just dies and then about two seconds later it jumps back in to live. it also cuts out when try to park. ie going from drive to revs. but then you can start straight away. any body got any ideas what problem might be. thanks jeremy

Try driving along and lift your foot off the accererator pedal, if when doing this the MIL light comes on for a second or two, this won't happen all the time, maybe once or twice in 20 or so goes, but it indcates that it's possibly a fault within the injecton pump.

I had the same fault with mine (97k miles) swapped the pump from an Omega and all was fine.

hi thanks for replying was it a major job to change pump. did it need setting on a lap top after. where can i get info on timing and locking pin before i remove also do you think i could just get mine repaired. if so would you no of company who could do it. thanks jeremy

Changing the pump is pretty easy, though you will need a special tool to remove the pump and keep the sprocket held in place while you swap pumps, if you buy the complete kit it has all the bits needed, cam holder, chain tensioner pins, and the pump puller / sprocket holder.

As the pump is a 'fly-by-wire' it's dificult to find someone who will overhaul it for sensible money, but make some calls you may get lucky, I have a friend who is breaking a '97 dse, he may still have the pump for sale, let me know if you would like me to enquire.
