Woah, easy mate, I was only asking a quick question! I'm sure their are hundreds of threads that have covered ground done before but the whole point of the forum is to encourage discussions and that won't happen if all people do is view old threads, it becomes nothing more than a reference site.

Look, you don't want to answer, that's fine, who are you to decide for everyone else if they want to answer or not though??? I asked a simple question and did not expect anyone on here to come back and imediately leave an aggresive responce. I suggest that if you don't want to be viewed as exactly what your tag states then maybe you should refrain from using language like you did. Had you simply said, 'I suggest you do a search.' then that would have sufficed. Do you put that responce on every new thread started because I'm sure that if you search fully and properly you will find an answer to almost every single new question posted so as I said, why bother to have a forum and not just a database????

I chipped a previous dse i owned and noticed extra poke but absoluteiy no extra mpg.
 
Hi Mate, I have a couple of friends who have both had their 2.5 DSE chipped, their fuel consumption has not changed, just a wee bit more acelleration, hardly worth the cost & effort, well thats my opinion only. I have a 1998 2.5 DSE regulary serviced and driven sensible she returns approx 30 / 32 MPG on the motorway at a steady 55 MPH and approx 25 / 28 around town. I must stress I am very light footed with Diesel now at £1.43.9 a litre I am filling my boots with more feathers.
 
As with any increase in power there are ups and downs. Forget all the stupid claims made by manufacturers and some owners. The ONLY way to increase the power on a diesel engine without major mechanical modification is to increase the fuelling. That is what these chips do, stick more fuel into the engine, simple as that. They may give a little better fuel comsuption at cruise speeds because of their smoother mapping, but IF you use the extra power all the time you WILL use more fuel. That is absolutly written in stone and no matter how many people argue differently will remain so. My DSE is chipped and is a flying machine, but use the power and it drinks fuel. There is no other way of doing it. I now await the PSI power box and super chip brigade to come and say they get 165 BHP use it all the time and 40 to the gallon. Well before you start. BULL****. What you get out of one of these chips depends entirly on the state of your engine. If you are trying to polish a turd by fitting one, that is not the way to go.
 
I've now run mine both with and without the PSI power box fitted. With the PSI box fitted there is a lot more power, the auto doesn't downshift on dual carriage way slight upgrades as it does without the PSI box fitted. The MPG on the display is much better with the PSI box, but that is because the fuel computer doesn't know what is going on. The actual fuel consumption brim to brim is as near as makes no difference the same but the car is much more pleasant to drive with the PSI box. If you want a small fuel saving, bin the viscous fan, makes quite a noticable difference in winter.

This statement says it all.Absolutely true.I never chipped my second dse as i dont think its THAAAT slow (when its warmed up that is) and hopefully it will extend engine and gearbox life.With deisel at over 6 quid a gallon its light footed driving from now on for me as well.
