need help had the most amazing engine failure known to man dropped a valve shattering the piston which smashed the sump the rod come through the side of the engine straight into the wiring loom burning the ecu out hows that for bad luck have changed the engine since out of a 2001 omega had a s/h ecu and all coded in fine but the tickover is stuck at 1500 rpm and cant be lowered any more via the ecu stepper is on 0 any advice would be gratefull

Could there be a problem in the wiring for the throttle potentiometer, maybe a short is sending a higher voltage to the ECU?

I would call that engine failure as catastrophic! Did you pick the pieces of engine up off the road, I'd have them mounted and placed on my mantlepiece.

found the fault after a lot of heartache and headscratching it was a broken wire to the crank shaft sensor got it all running sweet as a nut but i have got to say that i have fitted an omega engine and found it more powerfull than the original(strange but true), as for the pieces out of the engine i feel like mailing them to bmw and asking them to put it back together and move the poxy wiring loom cost more to repair the electrics tha fix the engine
thanks
ian
